Leaky intake manifold was my problem in the past, never noticed it but nuts were so loose that when i gave it gas the carb was lifting off the manifold, and eventually engine would cut out.

Good luck and stick with it the doors look like they're fitting pretty good, and that's a start!!
Have you driven it yet or is it your shift hand?
If you're used to a bike you're gonna love that car, it's like a 4 wheeled motorcycle!

Just wanted to echo the thoughts. Your theme of "first get it running, then make it pretty" was an inspiration to me and I kept it right up front between my eyes! Whoever gets that project, it's a steal for the price, and there's enough room to have it shipped anywhere in the USA. Good luck with whatever you're doing, I've really gained alot from your posts and build site! Thanks Big Bob

I also think it's way cool! Wonder how the brad body which is shaped for the VW pan is modified to take the MG chassis? Also you're gonna need three sets of wrenches SAE, Metric and Whitworth? Good luck I like it a lot!!!

Yeah, well my Astro has 232,000 and has been going strong and taken me and my family many happy miles until this stupid VATS crap started which I'm hoping this guys fix will take care of: newrockies.com/

I'm presently facing electronic issues with my Chevy Astro, and it's all pointing toward the slippery slope of a huge problem particular to many GM vehicles regarding VATS and passkey security system breakdown. Most repair shops start throwing expensive parts at the problem and often to no avail. In researching the issue there seems to be one bright light that got a handle on the problem, so any of you GM owners plagued by the flashing security light of doom, as well as all the related hassles & breakdowns here's the cure: newrockies.com/

Rich, sorry about the windshield situation but if you check the posts on this board you'll learn that the GT uses a corvette windshield whereas the GT2 is a custom fab no longer made. There are a few members on this board that have access to some spares and the will eventually post. I got mine by buying a complete car for $150 from Craigslist and then reselling the body less the windshield for a profit. I'd say start looking on Craigslist locally and distance.
Good Luck, and I'd think about having a glass expert do the install.
Also you can post on the general part of the board, this is not an off topic subject
all the best, Mike Horen

Thanks, I do have a tow bar that was custom built for pulling a bug behind an RV so it might line up OK on the 2
I'll have to check when the Astro comes out of the shop.
In the mean time I've tripped upon a huge discovery dealing with the VATS system on many GM vehicles which I'll post as a separate thread

both good suggestions but:
using a tow bar that distance is sort of like putting a couple of stilson wrenches on that front beam and banging away, OK for a short distance but 1900 miles?
most decent trailers are in the $1500 - $2500 range and I'd have to deal with selling it once I get down there since the local community board doesn't allow storage in the driveways or front or back lawns/yards
even more of bust my Astro is starting to crap itself electronically!

I'm wanting to take my GT2 down to FL from NY, Uhaul car carriers which are usually cheap locally skyrocket at this time of the year for longer distance. There's also the option of tow dolly which lifts the front wheels, not sure how that will work as the 2's rear ground clearance is about 3-4" (exhaust system) My other choice is to fly back and drive the car down, but I have to do that at least one other time to bring the wife's ride down. The pull car is my Chevy Astro RWD which I'll need for rainy days. AARGH!!! Any thoughts???

Leonard, I would wrap with something like freezer wrap or waxed paper and a light coating of grease. I think newspaper absorbs moisture and will be like a wet sponge against it.

Now I understand why you did that (put it on the rod so it pivots) to allow for the arc or radius movement of the lever attached to the headlights! Good on ya!

My only question with what Dan suggests was what keeps the mounted end of the act from flopping up and down since it is pivotal rather than mounted. But it seems from the diagram that I worked on that the mounting is triangulated so it's not really going anywhere, is that correct?

How does this avoid the act from going up and down or flopping around when it's job is to push straight?

I've already checked collected and printed the various solutions by board members, but the mounting and length of the actuator are the mystery to me several actuators that have 4" or 3.93" throw have different body lengths. As close as I can figure the mounting place has to be on the firewall next to the steering column. Not sure where that might be approachable from. I haven't checked yet but the door on top seems tighter than a turtle's a_ _! ˆguess I'll have to just get under and have a look.

From those of you that have installed one already, is it possible to to do with the body on?
I've got a GT2 that may need it. Also the throw mentioned is 4" but what about the length of the actuator body.
Any tricks to mounting?
Any wiring diags?
Also is it smarter to have separate controls for the actuator and the lights?
Thnx for any help on this

Has anyone found a good cover for the GT2 that fits? I'll need to leave mine outside for a few weeks while the garage gets taken over for temporary storage of household items. I know if it rains I'll have an aquarium inside, and I will also be transporting on a carrier later in the year so I'd like to keep it covered then also. Don't want to go the polyethelene & rope route not great on the paint.

I'm not sure you can "burn off" brake fluid from either the shoes or the drums, the last I recall it caused a glazing on either or both which created problems. The fix was to take the drum off and using a clean rag and carbon-tetrachloride. wipe out both drum and shoes. Be careful handling that stuff, its really pungent and burns!
