Welcome to the family, as you can tell, we are all happy to see new people getting into these and let me forwarn you, it can be addicting. Don't try to do too many things at once other wise its going to be a long term project. I learned that the hard way by taking EVERYTHING apart on my first B-GT to get everything how I wanted it... Still in pieces, so I found a second one to drive around and enjoy while I piece back the first one. Lesson learned - take on one small project at a time and write down things you notice you will have to address later on. that way you can think about how to proceed. simple example, if you think it sits too high/low, start off with the shocks vs a drop / lift kit. New shocks will solve more issues than you know.
Sorry didn't mean to get long winded. Any questions you have or ideas, feel free to ask on here, I have found everyone on here to be more helpful than a repair manual... we have been in the same boat, and have found solutions to nearly any issue that may come up.
Good luck, and may the torque wrench be with you!

The dealership key chain doesn't mean anything. That could just be a place that it was serviced, or they may have bought it/taken it in on trade from a private individual. I'm guessing "jet" was just a local owned dealership that either went out of business or changed owners/names long ago prior to the internet being such a major role in every aspect of life. Good luck with the B-GT2 and I look forward to seeing your progress on it

I had a simulacra problem with the starting system my GT in the spring. I just wired in a push button starter. I wired direct from battery to fuse to button to starter. its out of sight behind the padded roll-bar so not just anyone can see it and be gone, besides, the key still has to be turned on :-) . 3/4 of the time the key works fine, but it was embarrassing for me having to have it towed home...
The few times I had to use it really have paid off.
But a clutch cable... Haven't had to do that, yet. Now watch i will have to now that i mentioned it.
What happens if a clutch cable breaks when you are in gear? i know you will slow down after you kill the engine, but can you still shift into neutral?

I want to but don't think I can. I just blew a spark plug out of my head today... don't know if i didn't have it in good and it shook loose or what. i ran it over a year since I changed the plugs last... oil leak on that side anyway, maybe its time for a new head.

i like the idea that was done on the 1969 Bradley GT currently in the new topics section, it appears he made an acess cover with a airscoop on that. yeah I know he has it for sale, I put the pitures upfor him, but it is a good idea in my opinon. then you have room to make a ducting system to cool it better.

Who makes the wiring kit? do they have a support number to call? I'm guessing that your wiring kit was not designed for a fiberglass car, meaning that there are very few grounding wires. Try running some wire you have no use for as a ground wire for both sides and see if that works. Thats the only thing I can contribute, Good Luck!

Tell me about it, 2 of the 5 local parts stores here in town have real wrench turners working at them, the other 3 (national chains) have people who tell me their computer system only goes back to 1980, they can't help me. then I ask to see the manager who is the only ASE certified mechanic working there fresh out of college and sometimes can get me what I'm after. I don't want to talk down those who went to college for automotive, I did. But there is a fine line between a college education and real world experience. those who have both are an asset to parts stores, the rest are just their to sell you products they can find in their computer.
Needless to say, when I need something, I go to the two local owned places 90% of the time even if something may cost a few dollars more.

For the AC, I had one on my first B-GT as an add on option from Bradley (so it appears anyway). I removed it so I could run dual carbs, and when I was removing other components of the system is when I discovered that the whole car needed to be gone threw, old heat cracked wiring, rusted out pans, a total mess... So you are on the right step getting the car back in shape first prior to doing AC. The compressor on my 1600 was attached to the engine on the left side (drivers side), and ran lines to the front to all the other components. I would recomend doing a search in the archives on the site here, then check out what some people have done on youtube for VW 1600 AC Here are 2 that I like, but there may be a clearence issue for you... If you get a used system, Find out if it is set up for R-12 or R-134a. R-12 is the older refrigerant system that was discontinued for "contributing to global warming" and not being "Eco-friendly." There are retro fit adapters to convert R-12 to R-134a, however it would be easier in the longrun just to find a system made for it in case you ever need replacement parts. You could more than likely find something that will work on www.thesamba.com or on www.vintageair.com . I know vintage air doesn't have a kit for VW listed, but it is EVERYTHING you need, and its all new. Here is an example of one of their kits -Ok, that was long winded, but I'm not done yet I would recommend mooneyes website for mirrors, here is a link to a search I just did. www.mooneyesusa.com/shop/searched.php?keywords=mirror&x=0&y=0I think i saw a GT-II with these. and these are like what is on the GT on the wheel wells.

- Just a side note, the metal band /support inside was covered over by the fiberglass so you don't know its there unless you drill into it...

My dad had bags and trunk that did the same thing on one of his old Yamaha xs1100s found that there was a metal support inside the fiberglass that the lights were grounded to and it ran around the hole thing including the mounting location. so the lights were already grounded. That is the only thing that comes to mind is that it IS self grounding, and the two wires are for running lights and brake light/turn signals

I'm planning on running the pipes up near the front and have functional side-pipes / lakepipes, whatever you wanna call them. I figure that the exhaust gases should be cool enough by the time they get to the front that it won't be turning the chrome blue, and I won't be burning my leg ;D

If you can increase the size and refine the detail I would love to have some. Maybe also have "BRADLEY GT" / "BRADLEY GT-II" / "BRADLEY GT-IIe" embroidered just below the collar in the back - depending on who wants what... like how the big name brands put the brand logo on the back. Just a thought.
Do you have any pricing in mind, shirt color, thread color, sizes...

Do you have a facebook or myspace account where you could upload pictures? even pictures of the engine and trans would be helpful if you don't know much on VWs or whatever the power source is...
