Lefty loosey, righty tighty..The impact should remove it without holding the pulley. my big ass electric one wont do it. breaker bar and cheater it think is the way to go oh and instead of a screwdriver ill put a craftsman ratichit and get my lifetime warranty back

Assuming you are talking about the generator/alternator pulley...If you are replacing it with a new one use a pipe wrench to hold it in place and use the impact on the nut. If you are going to reuse it, use a strap wrench or....use a bigger screw driver that takes up all the space in the notch & angle it the opposite way clock wise while you are turning the nut counter clockwise, it does not have to sit on the crankcase. Regards, no im talking about the one on the end of the crankshaft on the engine. in i already bent a notch into the slot. im thinking heat....

well im trying to remote my pulley on my vw, and its being alot of work. my book sez to "insert screwdriver in to slot till it sits on the crankcase, then get out your breaker bar and turn counterclockwise" ok so i did that. i broke a 1/4 inch diameter screwdriver. twice. then i got out the air impact wrench, noting. then i got out the electric impact wrench, still noting...
any good ideas?

restoring it, not like thos creepy Jaguar owners, who sit around in horrible green sweaters and talk about the rarity of NOS parts....i want it to have a nice paint job, run nice and look good, i don't want to over restore it... i want to drive it, not hide it away.

i would be interested! but im poor so i need the project that i can afford.
the cars ive owned at this point are a Bradley GT, and my new baby, a 1960 jag mark 2 i paid 500$ for.(the gt cost me 1500$) and i think the somehow the Jag its a bit more classy than a fiberglass kit car.....not that im complaining....
