oh, and it looks like the seats from the Saturn SL2 aren't going to work, too much padding in the bottom. Laying back pretty far, I still hit my head on the roof. Guess I shouldn't have tossed the old fiberglass shells (I think they were GT1 seats)

Your wiring rat's nest looks like what mine used to. I had broken fuses, wiring all over the place, it really was a huge mess.
It takes a lot of patience - that's for sure. I'm almost done with mine - used an EZ Wire 21 circuit harness.
Good luck.

Good work. I have a former GTE, too, and it is SE Minnesota. Put thousands into the engine and now it backfires badly. Pictures available. Just ask.
The nice thing about the GTE is that the front hood has been cut for you, and the rear engine compartment should be wide enough to lift the engine in or out without removing the dual carbs.
I am retiring today and am getting weary of climbing under the two beautiful Bugs and the GTII. All are going up for sale some time this summer.

backfiring should be fairly easy to work through, its either valves or timing, right?
should be bolting the body down this weekend and getting started on the butt-sag brace. There was a picture of a GTE on here somewhere that showed a fairly simple one to make.
I like the big lid up front, will give me a nice open area to work in for installing a fuel tank and probably a battery, but when the factory latch broke while driving at 60mph on the highway, it cost me my windshield as it flew open and created a big round crack that will probably be impossible to repair.

Valves, timing, engine mixture, or exhaust leak.

Valves, timing, engine mixture, or exhaust leak. crossfiring due to moisture, dist cap carbon tracking, mistaken firing order, bad points, intermittent momentary grounding of the points wire from coil neg to points.

Canyou post the schematic for the seq turn signals in a thread of its own. Makes it easier for others to find in the future

OMG, that brings up the unfortunate history of the GTII windshield. There aren't any left, or at least not many. I have a new one packed and ready for shipping, but it goes with the car when I sell it.
Where in Minnesota are you?

Valves, timing, engine mixture, or exhaust leak. I have to do a compression check as soon as I get an adapter for the smaller plugs. I fear that one of the valves is damaged, or maybe a poorly installed roller rocker and rod. Yea, it has roller rockers.

... it cost me my windshield as it flew open and created a big round crack that will probably be impossible to repair. There's this GTII on craigslist (Burnsville, MN) that he says he may part out. Might not be a bad option for a windshield: minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/cto/2425487708.htmlI might send the guy an email about some misc parts. It's been up for a few weeks.

yes. definitely butt sag.
there's a pic of an alternate brace that comes off the fork that supports the tranny that looks much easier. I am about a weekend away from starting mine. I'll see if I can find a link to the other one.

Haven't posted in a while, but still making slow progress... Picked up a spoiler from an Acura RSX on craigslist. Wasn't quite wide enough. So I cut it, and made a filler block to glue in: and here it is so far: will lay in some 'glass today and see if I can get it looking right.

Wow, you have quite the project going on. Great to see the progress. Your pan and engine looked almost like mine did when I started (see bradley gt1 project thread). Keep up the good work.

Jeff Troy - the nice thing about these is I should be able to put a nice set of blue-dots in there... dawgdk - just one more thing I'm going to have to do before I get it on the road... make some butt-sag supports. I'm going to have to learn how to weld now. Or keep leaning on my neighbor's skills. I didn't notice the back fenders flaring out any more than the fronts, what I notice the most is the door alignment, or rather mis-alignment. I should be getting my blue dots in the next couple days, but I really don't want to drill through the original tail lights, so I'm looking for replacements. Bus tail lights... Who knew? But their rare.
