I have to replace my Gullwings on my GT (passenger side was broken but I could live with it). Then my mechanic broke the driver's side so I HAVE to do something. What do you think of the Half-Gullwings that Sun Ray is producing? Anybody have any pictures?

do you have a link to the doors so we can look at them?
I'm thinking about doing that on my invader, so the doors dont look so huge.

My drivers side door has a crack just shy of a foot long that I superglued back together. Still holding. When it fails I am going to make my own 1/2 door by cutting them. Better air flow with them cut down some any way

Ray doesn't have a web sight.. You call him and talk to him for a while. He loves to chat about the Bradley or from what I have found every thing under the sun. Great guy though.
Sun Ray Products Corp. 8017 Ranchers rd. Fridley, Minnesota 55432

I spoke with Ray (at length) and he's the one who steered me in the direction of the Half-gull. He doesn't have a web-site but he referred me to "Sun Ray Products" on Facebook. I found the page, but I couldn't find any photos that helped. I was originally going to order two new Gulls, but it's cost-prohibitive to ship them to South Florida. The Half-Gulls are MUCH less expensive, but I'd like to hear from somebody who has actually seen or used them.

I have not personal seen half gull wings but I think they would work to keep the wind off of your head. Where I live they are not practical at all. You can leave the house and it is full sun and not a cloud in the sky. Within a half hour it will be raining full down pour and look like their is going to be a tornado dropping on your head. After a couple hours of the flash flood and a few snow flakes its a beautiful day once again.

So that is what weather is like...here is southern California, we get some sun, then some more sun, then like a weeks notice of when a storm is comming in. It comes in and leaves on time, then more sun, and some sun after that.

I have half gulls on mine. I live in south Florida and they are perfect. Full doors are useless unless you have A/C. It is like driving an oven! The halfs keep the sun off and allow good air flow and fairly good rain protection. Eric

Eric, would you post a picture of the Half door? I would like to see it as well as geebee09 would like to see it.
Thanks

Eric...Thanks for the picture. I spoke with Sun Ray at length and still can't picture the product. I thought there were two pieces (hinged in the middle?) Yours has ONE piece only? I don't have a garage and I live in South Florida. I have to drape rubber/plastic over the original broken door to keep water from leeking inside. I got the impression from Sun Ray that there were two pieces that were hinged. Can you advise?

Mine are cut off from full doors. The full doors are one piece also without a hinge to the best of my knowledge. I have never seen a hinge on either kind. You might need full doors. I live in south fl also and the rain can get pretty bad! Eric

I appreciate the pics. But I'm still confused about Sun Ray's Half-Gulls. I got the impression that each gull-wing came in 2 pieces...upper and lower. I see the upper part on the one that YOU made from a full door...not Sun Ray's product. But what happens when it rains. I don't have a garage and I live in South Florida. I'm kind of amazed that Sun Ray offers a product where they can't show you a d**n picture of the product that they want you to buy. I THINK I want to buy it but I don't want to throw my money away away on something that may not work.

My logos are over 20 years old so detail was lacking back then. They were scanned off the front of I disagreeembly manual. As for doors. Mine has always lived in the garage to avoid the FL rain. But it would not surprise me if he found a way to make two piece doors given the breaking problem with the one piece doors. I have never seen a set of his in real life. Eric

Eric...Talked to Ray again today for clarification and the Half-Gulls sound a lot like your homemade version. He was intrigued by my 'hinged-in-the-middle' 2-piece half-gull idea and thought it might be something that could work. I wish I had the know-how. I know you're in Sarasota County. Do you know anything about Sunshine Auto Garage (formerly Rick's VW Repair)? My mechanic (in Bradenton) has had my Bradley for almost 3 months for points/plugs and a ground issue with a rear light. Oh...he also managed to break my gullwing in two. I will NEVER take it back to him.

Ricks back in the day has worked on my car many times. He has always done a excellent job at a good price. International VW does good work also if they are still in business. I lived up on university parkway so I always had Ricks work on it because they are close.

Given that I will need to address my cracked door at some point, I did some research into how to cut plexiglass. I note that most things I fould was for thin plexiglass not the thick stuff the GT doors are made of.
It appears that a power saw, or jigsaw, can cut the plastic if the blades are for suited to metal and not wood, and the teeth should be all in alignment on the blade. I hear that the cutting creates a lot of fumes. Anyone ever done this at home? Eric... how did you cut your doors down? Score and snap or with a power saw?

Use a fine tooth metal cutting blade, go REALY SLOW without pushing to much & no smokey. Have it cramped down TIGHT cloce to the cut line! No Bumping up/down. WD40 helps as a lube. Find someone with a large Laser Cutter & they will cut like butter. Then you need to bend it without haveing a dip or turned up edges. You will need a PLUG to bend it over & if I'm not mistaken the curve is TAPERED. Now do you think it's EASY? PS You need to make it bigger then then opening the cut it doen to fit the opening. NO to Bradleys are the same & Left/Right may be different also!!

See above. I used a jig saw and cut real slow. Then used a palm sander with fine grit paper to smooth the cut.

I've had success cutting 5/16" plexi with an orbital jig saw . I was advised to do so by a local plastic shop. I had no problem with it set on about the 3rd or 4th of 5 orbital settings, Previously I used just a plain jig saw and that was a disaster --orbital is the way to go!

The mechanic who broke my gull owes me. It's cost-prohibitive to get 2 new gulls (plus shipping to Florida.) I told him to order the half-gulls, but I keep the car outside because I don't have a garage and it's open to the elements. So I'm thinking of telling him to use the remaining bottom halves of the existing gull wings to make a "hinged" 2-piece gull. Does anybody have any ideas on the subject?
