It looked like this post was going to hijack the swing to IRS post. So I withdrew it and reentering as a new thread Just out of curiosity on the torsion assembly I had used for my chassis. It uses two mounting arms for each torsion arm. Of all the VW chassis I have seen they have had only one arm. My question is what VW and or year did this IRS torsion assembly come from? This torion assembly was previously used in a rail buggy. Or is this a option to stiffen the torsion arm for rail buggys? users.alink.com/aeolus/img/IRS-01qst.jpg [/img] you have a IRS the other pic above is a swing arm -- does that help ? No, I'm asking about the structor of the torsion arm of this particular IRS torsion assembly. Look at the double arms circled in the picture and compare it to other IRS systems Wyn

To get them on paper copy the images to a jump drive or to a CD then take them to Staples or any print shop and have them printed on C or D size paper. Print two or three copies of each that way you can draw and mark them as you complete a section and an unmarked copy for your records. Wyn

Every VW chassis I have seen the brake line runs down the out side of the tunnel on the drivers side. These pics are from one of the tunnel I worked on. The brake line was probley added to the inside of the tunnel and over years of vibration may have beat a hole in it, since it was not supported properly. A new one can be added, but you would need to cut holes in the sides of the tunnel so the line can be attached at points so it does not vibrate. Wyn

About 35 years ago at my father-in-laws farm 3 of us went out rabbit hunting. We each had 22 rifles and we each got a rabbit. Took them back to the farm house and the mother-in-law cooked them, they turned out great. Wyn

I am using my roof support for one of my shoulder belt attachment points. The headliner support point will also be the shoulder belt attachment point. I welded a 1 inch square tube instead of that sheet metal bracket to be used for the headliner. I had welded a nut inside that tube for the shoulder belt. So with the proper spacers and washers it will hold the headliner up and be the attachment point for my shoulder belt.

The GT II did not have any sunvisors installed or designed. I am at that point in my Brad also.
I have the sunvisors from a Honda civic that need recovering. To mount the sunvisor and that little support stub you need a flat horizontal surface on the head liner. The stem of the visor needs to clear about 1.5 inch into the head liner and roof area. The big question is will the head liner be strong enough to support the sunvisor, because it will be near the area where the 'A' piller was cut off and the covering is tuck under the door weather seal for support. You would need to find that location and build up the head liner base. From what I have seen most of the visors mount the same. Another question, will the visor be in the way of exiting the car?

The major difference between the GT-II and the GTE bodies is the engine side walls. In the GT-II the wall are larger and attached to the cargo compartment the upper fender to the rear edge between the tail lights and the engine compartment opening. The GTE the wall are shorter and attached only to the cargo compartment and the upper fender. They are not attach to the rear edge as it leaves room to mount the tail lights. As for the front of the bodies the opening is cutout for the GTE. And If you want you can cut it out for your GT-IIs. The instruction to cut out this opening are in the manual for the GTE. Wyn

About 10 years ago I had replaced the vinyl flooring in the bathroom. I had bought a piece of aluminum trim to place up against the tub and slide the flooring into. I bought it at Lowes, but they no longer supply it. I need the trim for my GT2 also. I have been looking for some trim like that so I could keep the trim to a minim size and hide the screws. As for the Lock assembly There is a B 4 on the side of the Lock assembly and a Number on the small blade part that begins with a K and 3 digits. This is the code for the Key. I recovered the locks from that GTE body with no keys. Took the lock to a locksmith and he made a set of keys from that code. I’ll take the lock back the locksmith and see of he can give me the manufacture of the locks. Latter on that. Wyn

Matt With the air struts supporting the rear window it should be near 0 weight or the struts could not hold it up. So I don’t think 15 lbs is a problem.
As for making the latch assembly I would need to put that off for a while. I have been having more medical problems, the doctor has told me not to use any power equipment for a while. Last Friday I had a severe and painful muscle attack in my back and I went down. Tomorrow I’m going in to get 3 nerves in my low back worked on to try to remove this pain.

After looking at the installation procedure. You have backing plates a support plates with a Star washer in between both. All of these items would have fallen inside the headliner. It looks like you need to open up the headliner with care. I don’t see any way around it. Wyn

My Dome light has two independent lights in it and each one is controlled by pressing on the lens or closeing the door Switch.

I would need to know more about the switch. Does the headlight sw have a ground contact for dome light? Maybe the switch frame is the ground and you may need ground lug on the switch mounting stem. Normally the dome light has 12 volts applied all the time and the light is controlled by switching grounds on and off. As per the drawing. Wyn

I have a couple of magnetic reed switches, they will be mounted on the inside of the door frame about 6" under the 'A' pillar on each side. Then a magnet inside the doors over that spot.

The whole headliner will be covered in ½” of foam as shown in the GT II plans with the addition of this light assembly mount included under the foam.
Not much area for sound proofing. The sound proofing goes in the floor and rear cargo compartment walls. And I would like to try some dynamic sound buffering.

I would love to have a garage in the back corner of my yard like yours. Put my parts and shop in it and my wife can put her car back in the other garage. It would make us both happy. Wyn PS I run all my pictures through MS paint, I have a small yellow mark on my screen and I down size and crop all my pics to the mark. When I post the pics here on the board they are one screen size to fit.

In photo Bucket you should find a list of 4 print statements for each picture. Copy the one that has the in front of the web link such as (http ://www.ksus-62.net/Brad/Misc/GT2-3b-09.jpg ) which is one of mine and at the end of it. Just paste it in the text box where you have your statements for your post. So you should see www.ksus-62.net/Brad/Misc/GT2-3b-09.jpg here in your post. I have entered 2 spaces in the brackets to deactivate this image other wise you would see the image. Wyn

While I’m at the roof I need to set up the dome light. I had bought a Light assembly from Chrysler to install in my Brad. I did not want to cut the cross member to flush mount the light and weaken the roof section. There is about a ½” space between the headliner and the roof structure, so that gives me enough space to place the mounting clips and power connector. It only needs 3 wires one 12 volts, one ground, and one ground through a door switch. The only problem I needed to build a ramp from the headliner base support to the light fixture and allow room for the ½” headliner foam and the headliner material. The ramp material is a stiff foam. I bought the foam from Wall Mart, it is the base foam for a sleeping bag in the camping section. Very inexpensive and easy to work, I had used it for the dash pad and this is what was left over. I had just used a contact cement on the spacer parts and the ramp using the roof and headliner to support and shape the parts. Wyn

I had somthing simular happen to me on a trip to Flordia in a motor home. The motor home ran great from central Ohio To Kentucky, gased up just inside Kentucky, It ran good until about 20 miles from Lexington. I stop there to visit my Mom for several hours, got back in the motor home and it idled good revedup good but put it under load really ran crappy. I thought getting back on the interstate I could wind it up and get it to blow it out what ever the problem is. I could only get it to run 35 mph down hill and 7 mph up hill. I limped back to Lexington and I bought all new Electronic package pickup coil and the reluctator. $75 in parts and put them on the engine in the parking lot. Started up and it ran good ran good to the freeway then ran really crappy. I went to a repair shop to see if they could fix it, the manager said he could not get to it for 3 days. I told him I needed to be in Flordia by that night. He ask me what it was doing, so I told him. He said it sound like alcohol percolation. He said Kentucky can put extra alcohol in the gas before labeling it. He told me to dump the tank and use non alcohol gas. I did and it ran great for the rest if the trip.
Check the type of gas you are using. No Alcohol !
When you get out under load it heats up and can start that alcohol percolation. Give it a try.

I was just thinking about getting a rear wing of some sort with an embedded 3rd brake light. I've always thought the twoie needed a spoiler of some sort... I agree with you the twoie needs a spoiler, but usually the 3rd brake light are below the spoiler and many trucker will not see them up close. That is why I put them at the highest point I could get to without going outside the body. Where are you going to mount the ¾” rods? I used the ¼” rods as they will be just above the rear window. Anything larger will be in the edge of the window and below it. Wyn
