Sunday my son and i removed the type 3 muffler and heat exchangers so we could install a new type 1 muffler and heat exchangers. Ran into a little problem I was planing to leave the rear engine mounting bar installed but the exhaust was block by the bar. So to remove the bar we had to remove the type 3 fan to get the bolts. In taking the fan assembly apart we found the fan had completly broke lose from its center. That OK we had another fan from another type 3 engine we disassembled. Its now a little clean up and reasemble the fan. Wyn

A fortuitous discovery. I would think it might have made some noise too.

A fortuitous discovery. I would think it might have made some noise too. The engine was removed from a 73 type 3 we scraped out. It had 60,000 miles on it. The engine turned over by hand Ok and we did not hear and noise of a problem. If we could have started it, think it would most deafinitely make some noise. All the fuel lines were rotten and this car was in such bad shape it was unsafe to put gas into it. I was hoping to use the engine for a short time without rebuilding it. After getting the Brad together and running I am going to build a new engine for it. Right now I have alot of little things to do before I can drop the body onto the chassis. [ Mount AC parts into the body make a compressor mount for the type 3 engine. I may pull the engine and go ahead and drop the body. ] Wyn

Nice to see someone else using a type III. They also make an alternator conversion for them. I am trying to figure out how to put AC on it without the small pulley in the middle screwing up the looks. Attachments:

I am making a cradle to bolt on top of the fan assembly so I can mount a Kia AC compressor on the right side of the engine with a parasitic pully mounted on the generator. So you will need to use two belts, engine to gen, and gen to AC comp. I took a pattern to a company that uses a water jet. Had two pattern cut out and all I need is the weld them together with a 1 inch spacer. And weld a platform on the one end to mount the compressor. As for the alternator isn't any better than the generator, no current gain between the two. I would like to try and mount an old chrysler alternator one without an internal regular and with the heavy 60 amp diodes.
