Does a GTII use a stock Beetle speedo cable? I'm placing an order for a few parts I didn't realize I needed (shift rod bushing for one) and I'd like to replace the cable if it easy to obtain.
Also, the interior of this car was gutted when I bought it so I'll soon be working on replacing the various cables, putting together the shifter, park brake handle, etc. I ended up having to buy a new throttle pedal assembly (too many pieces corroded/missing to rebuild), new park brake lever (pieces missing), and I found a kit to order to replace the fiber washers for the small handle on the passenger side of the park brake handle which appears to control the heater box cables. It looks like there used to be a small cable on the driver's side of the park brake handle though...I don't have a handle or cables in the tube to see where they go. Was this something used on a Bradley?
Thanks for any help!
Derek

It depends on what speedometer you are using. If its the factory one then yes, a type 1 speedo cable will work. Some use Bus cables as they are a little longer. Look at cip1 as they will have the overall length differences.
The VW use the drivers side to open rear heater ducts (for the rear passengers) if I recall correctly. Most kits don't use them. The stock VW heater cable will have one connection for the handle, but then it splits into two cables to control the dual heater boxes.
You can do several things: 1. Run it like a stock Bradley with 1 cable and use the ducts to control where the heat goes (floor vs dash) 2. Use both handles and run duct work to make one side (operating off 1 heater box) to provide heat and one side to provide defroster off the other heater box.
It really depends on what you want to accomplish.

I'm sure there will be a lot of small issues to work out to get this thing on the road and driving and I'm going to have to hustle to get this car done by spring. The cable will work with most mechanical speedometers. The VW plastic nut that attaches the cable to the speedo will not work on most aftermarket gauges. When/if you decide to swap I can walk you through the fix.
