Is it rare for a Gt to be built with corvair running gear? Anyone have dmv experience with getting vin # assigned. Or if not vw frame where to look for vin # ? Thanks in advance, I am trying to help an 80 year old friend.

Getting a VIN number is really based on where you live. Try looking at the RMV site to get any info you would need for a Specialty Constructed Vehicle (or kit car).
If its a custom frame with no VIN number you will have to get one assigned and that process varies greatly by state.
Was the vehicle ever registered? Who built the frame? Not Bradley Automotive as far as I know.

What kind of corvair engine is it? the smallest they make is a 110 Hp. I know it is a lot stronger engine then the vw. If you have the dual port heads for the corvair and want to go to a 4 barrell carb they make a kit for that .
Back in the day I had a turbocharged 180hp corsa top of the line corvair. very fast . I replaced the single barrel carb with a 2 barrel and modified the engine and bored it out. About 230 Hp. Could run with any muscle car small block . a real screamer.
The engine has a special cam it runs in reverse of the origional design. Parts available at crown corvair in New York.
I'm envious. very easy to work on.

PS This is very important always keep an extra fan belt with you . because of the way the belt travels they only last about 20k miles and always break at the wrong time. No belt no cooling.

If they are running the stock Corvair drivetrain (ie: not the VW trans since it is a custom frame) then the motor will not have a reverse run cam in it. It will be just like the factory design...rear engine.

i have a corvair engine and trans. on a bradley parts car i picked up. some of the body had to be cut behind the engine to fit. everything else other than engine and tran are from a beetle. you have to remember these are kitcars, so no two are going to be made the same way. it is up to the owner on what to do and how to do. is there less kits with corvair engines in it, yes. is it rare, no more as rare as a bradley with a vw drive train. IMO

How about posting some pretty pictures for us voyeurs? I can get you pics of the parts car and how the engine was attached, but it would have to wait til the snow is gone. snow is almost higher than the car... lol its interesting how it was done to say the least.

If performance is the point, then the Corvair engine is dwarfed by good ACVW builds.

Is mine the only Bradley with a VIN plate on the body, looking through the right front wheel well, up inside near the fire wall? Ive been watching some other descriptions on VIN numbers and plate locations, and Ive never seen anyone else say its on the body. I know this is the VIN, its on the NYS registration. Since my doner car has no papers, this is why I chose this body.

Is it a State assigned VIN?

I dont believe so, theres no markings on it that look like a NY state made tag. But now that you mentioned this, I will have to look closer. I do know that most production cars have tags near the drivers side windshield, but thats not a Bradley thing. Actually, my 67 Rambler has its tag on the pass. side shock tower, but I digress.....

FWIW, there are many very well built VW engines that out-perform the tired, old Corvair. I would not spend very much maintaining it.
