I've got the replacement front beam installed on the pan and went to put the steering box on and noticed the numbers 13 and 14 stamped on the clamp next to notches that are offset. I checked the Bentley manual and it says for a Beetle to make sure the notch marked 13 is on the lug on the beam. That doesn't make any sense to me...there are two lugs on the beam and one goes in each notch...no matter how you put the clamp. How is this thing supposed to go on?
Thanks,
Derek

The notches in the clamp set the angle of the steering box. It fits both ways but since the notches are not in the center of the clamp it will rotate the box up or down to line up with your steering column. One way is for Beetle/Thing the other is for Ghia. Use whichever gives you the best alignment with your column.

One set up is for the Ghia I believe and one is for the Beetle (different angles for the steering columns based on the seating position). Install it so the input shaft is tipped downward the most.
