Im about half way through wiring up my GT1. The stock wire harness is still in it but much of the wires had been disconected. All instruments are wired up and now working on the headlights and blinkers.
My flashers / blinkers work but they dont blink on off, just stay on solid. I have the yellow wire from the 2 way flasher running down to a toggle switch which sends the power down the line to either left or right blinker or middle position for off. Has my 2 way flasher gone bad?
Also i have a question about the low/high headlight relay. Can i discard it and simply use a toggle switch instead of having a push button for low/high? My push button is beyond useable and im not sure exactly how it should be wired up anyway. This is my first time wireing up a car from scratch so im not exaxtly a pro.

I feel your pain. I had to pull every wire out of my Bradley and start from scratch.
Blinkers: Check, double check and triple check your grounds. I had everything hooked up right and I was getting the same problem, but only on one side. Just as I began tearing all my wiring out (and it was ALL brand new) I found ONE loose ground.
Toggle lights....the stock headlight relay also confused me. I wound up buying a headlight relay from pep boys. My headlights are wired to one switch, my high beams to another. Lemme know if you want a more in depth description......

For your blinkers I would also check the grounds. The blinker itself is really quite simple. Power into the flasher, out to the switch (in your version a toggle switch) and then power to each turn signal side. When you flip the switch the ground resistance from the bulb (coming from the base of the bulb, across the filament, and back to the center connection) is what actually breaks the circuit momentarily to also the blinker to flash. You need to have a strong ground. If your grounds are strong I would replace the flasher.
You don't have LED lights by any chance do you? They do not have enough resistance to make a standard flasher flash.
Yes, you can wire your headlights through a single toggle switch (on/off/on) although you should make sure it is pretty heavy duty. Lights draw alot of current. You can have the "up" position be your high beam and your "lower" position he your low beams (or vice versa). Of course the draw back is that your gonna have to reach for it every time you want to switch from hi to lo. Why not use a standard floor mounted VW selector and get rid of the relay? That way your foot can toggle back and forth from lo to hi?

Hii,
Be sure that your battery is fully charged. The blinkers, for some unknown reason, don't always flash unless the engine is running if the power is low.
With a full charge, try hitting the flasher switch, and if the blinkers don't flash, turn them off and on again. That should get them going.
Good thing these cars have no quirks.
Warmest,

The stock headlight relay is really quite simple. Any momentary contact switch will work as a trigger. We are all assuming you are using incandescent bulbs for your turn signals?

jspbtown comment & syrnrnaguy's last point is important. If you changed flasher bulbs to LED's, you will not draw enough current to make a thermal flasher work. Will have to change to an electronic flasher. They are a bit more expensive (less than $20 though) and require an extra wire, but work great regardless of current draw. Warmest....[/quote]

RRe check your switch I had the same problem when I tossed the stock bradley rockers (they were shot) and I went to triple sealed toggles but I had a couple wires backwards ..... the flasher relays rarely fail (unless water damage) so I say re check your Hookups on the actual switch

Got it fixed this morning. Replaced the flasher relay and it started working a little. Hooked up a battery charger and it whoala. My battery had about 12volts charge in it.
