Hey everyone. I am in the middle of dismantling a 75 GTII. As this car has a Ford V8 in it (that seems to fit well) does anyone know if Bradley made a V8 version vs the standard VW configuration? Many thanks.

WOW, that is a first to me, a V8. I think that Bradley's where only kits designed to fit ACVW power trains and completed by skilled DIY, powered by wild imaginations.... Please, do share some pictures when you can and after your 5th post. Welcome to the Bradley's GT forum.

Ive seen a few GTII's on Ebay with either a Ford 302 or a Chevy 350. Done properly, I can only imagine what a 200 HP (base hp!) will do in a car that weighs less than 1000 lbs. I dont even know if you can reinforce a VW frame to handle that kind of torque.

Many thanks. Pantera, Is the engine setup like a Pantera with the engine in the back? I saw a Pantera back in 1979 in Alvin, Tx. with a 351 Cleveland. I have a GTII in Thailand and have been thinking of a V8. Thanks, John

Here's a couple photos (I hope). Have more. Custom built frame with rack and pinion, mcpherson struts, air shocks. I am thinking european suspension. Yes, it has a 351W with a Pantera 5 speed ZF tranny. Car was too far gone to really restore. Clutch did not work, but I managed to drive it in 2nd gear for a few minutes. Lots of torque. Really wanted the motor and tranny. Am thinking of saving the frame. Attachments:

This would be nice and quiet for the driver with the motor right behind your ear.

Hey Scott, Go to HHH? What year did ya graduate? Do you have a Bradley? Pantera Hey Scott, Go to HHH? What year did ya graduate? Do you have a Bradley? Pantera I left Horseheads back in the era of junior high east and west. Left in 8th grade. Graduated HS n Syracuse in 91. I really dont know anybody from the area anymore. As far as owning a Bradley...lemme tell you my tale. I own a 82 Camaro that I bought from a junkyard and restored into a firebreathing monster. I have done all I can do to it, so I needed a quick cheap project to get me thru the Syracuse winter. After several weeks of overpriced rust buckets, I stumbled on this purple beast. The seller was a rip off artist, I knew this from the get go. Little did I know how bad it was. The entire underbody was rusted out, the pans were shot and the electrical was, well, for the lack of a better word, the biggest clusterphuck Ive ever seen. Uploaded with ImageShack.usSo I set about rewiring her and installing new instruments and an interior. The wiring alone took me the better part of 2 months. The interior took me about 3 weeks. My biggest concern at this point (and just to prove a point) was to do this on a budget and use what Ive got laying around the garage before I go buy new parts. EVERYTHING on this car was boogered up. Ive had to replace everything I touch. At this point its become an exercise in perseverance. I will salvage this car, I will make it drivable again. Im going to sell it as soon as spring comes for one main reason....I dont FIT! Uploaded with ImageShack.us Im now moving on to the engine (which is what Im good at, this electrical stuff is for the birds, and body work is for madmen with more patience than I. ) With any luck Ill have cleaned the motor up, gotten the carb back on and have the engine back in the bay by the end of March. After that all she will really need is a windshield, which Im not going to buy until I know this car will run reliably and I can get it registered. (a whole other story.) So there it is. Ill try and post updated pics in a few weeks. Yeah, I own one, but its pretty much a basket case that Im restoring just to prove I can!

kennedy engine adapters sells adapters to connect any engine you want to a beetle transaxle. im keeping an eye out for a good mazda rotary engine to put in. mega horsepower out of a small engine.

ya, true.... but compared to how long a 150-200hp vw engine would last as a daily driver, i think would be worth it. if i could fit a jeep straight 6 in it i would. i swear by them motors. my current one is at 255000 and runs like a top.

Guy I worked with in Fayetteville, NC had a pantera, engine work was next to impossible. David Hale was his name.

I am not disagreeing that there are alot better choices for power, quietness and overall reliability (no offense Jeff Troy!) then a 40 year old air cooled VW.
It is just that the design of the Bradley doesn't allow for alot of creativity. Getting the motor to mate up to the tranny and fit in the rear is only the first, smallest, and easiest step of the process.
Most people who build Bradleys don't have tons of extra money laying around to sink into a relatively modest fiberglass body on a 40 year old platform.
This is the reason why unfinished projets pass from person, to person, to person. Each one of them with the best intentions of making the Bradley into something it is not. Then, when they realize that, they pass it on for less money they have into it.
Build it first. if you can build a good looking, safe, reliable, comfortable Bradley then go ahead and update it.

well im a speedfreak and this car has the real bradley title, the kit and the chassis are both 1976,entire car has been redone, solid underbody, roll cage, doors etc.....so the only thing left is to replace the 1968 1500cc and then......disc brakes all around.i did some creative bartering and only got about 2500 into it.

Hi Darren, IMHO a Subaru engine would be a better choice than a Mazda rotary. Easier swap, more reliable, and plenty of horsepower. For what it's worth to you, I've got a reliable, mildly modified 1679cc ACVW in mine. I think it's putting out about 100 HP and will turn 6000 RPM no problem. It gets to 70 MPH pretty quickly and scares the heck out of me above 90 MPH. Handling isn't very good at anything over 70 even with suspension mods. Front end is way too light for safe high speed stability. Gary Hammond,

thanks. ill look into that also.i wouldnt even buy a rx7 engine unless its running in the car w/good compression as its almost 1000 for a seal kit to rebuild.a wrx motor would be nice! lol!
