Hey guy's I have a problem that Iam just now beginning to work on, getting my car titled and licensed. I bought the car from a car lot and they were only able to give me a bill of sale . The problem is the guy who was building the car passed away and his widow gave it to the car lot as a donation . she didn't know much about it and couldn't find the title. The car lot had it for over a year and couldn't find the ladies name for me. so Its in limbo. Any one have any suggestions. How can I get the car titled as a 72 superbeetle which is what I've been told that it was. I'm not even sure it is a 72 superbeetle. I live in Denver ,Co. and hope to have it on the road by spring . Looking for any suggestions at all . thanks

Firstly it was NOT a Super Beetle. unless someone went through a lot of work to graft the front of a Standard onto it. A super has Macpherson strut suspendion in the front and there is no way the bradley body can super it let alone contain it under the body. It is a standard beetle link pin fron end, or a ball joint front end. Rear can be swing axle or IRS. On the front do you have 4 ball joints or no ball joints. On the rear do you have 2 solid axle tubes that only pivot at the transmission and DO NOT rotate when the wheels are turned, or do you have 2 half shafts with 2 CV joints each that rotate with the wheels?
You have to identify what you have BEFORE you go to the DOT/MOT
What are are the first 4 digits of the chassis vin number { located on the tunnel just in front of where the shifter tube attaches to the transmission. Forward of the oval hole}. Also how many digits are in the number between the *'s at either end.

I used these guys: www.its-titles.com/And was able to obtain a valid Massachusetts title (not an easy task!) for my Manx. David is right...get the VIN from the tunnel. You will need it to title it.

too funny, love confusing cops. I had one stop me..wanted registration, I showed it to him, he said it is no good..no expiration date. I explained that it was a disabled vet tag and it never expired. he wrote me up...judge said he needed to study the SC laws some and apologized for wasting my time.

In 34+ years in my GT I've only been pulled over twice, and both times it was because the officer just wanted to yak about the car.
Never had a problem as long as you're not a wiseass. It's not like a VW with a plastic body is a race car.
Warmest...

Find a donor bug with a title and use the pan. Works for me.
