Hello all, I have a question about bonding metal to the fiberglass body. After driving my bradley to work (i work nights) and around all summer, I have found the headlights to have poor side visibility due to their depth in the body. I have a set of popup lights I am going to install this winter and would like to get some ideas on the best way to mount them. I will make some metal plates with tapped holes to mount the light assy. Should i fiberglass in the plates or is there a glue that would bond metal to fg? thanks in advance. Jon

When I worked for Sea-Ray boats, we used a 2 part adhesive ( I can't remember the name of the stuff, but I could find out) to bond lots of stuff to the fiberglass, but the parts were always mechanically fastened with screws, or nuts and bolts also. The adhesive was mainly to make seams waterproof, I think, but I can tell ya that once that stuff dried there was no way to get things apart without major damage. It might work for bonding metal to fiberglass, but I couldn't recommend it. I would fiberglass in the plates.

I would heavily abrade the metal and fiberglass, apply this: www.autobodytoolmart.com/lord-fusor-plastic-to-metal-cross-bonding-adhesive-medium-116-p-15938.aspxto the back of the mounting plate, and then glass over everything once it had cured. Those headlights will have lots of stress on them. Ohh..and I almost forgot. Alot of the Factory Five guys swear by 3m's HSRF. Apparently its pretty bulletproof. They use it to bond body mounting bolts, hood & trunk hinges and such. I have never personally used it because I haven't had the need to...but it gets very high marks from that crowd.

Thanks guys! I like the double safe idea using the Fusor adheasive with glass over the plate. Im sure the wind load will be high on the popup headlamps so extra security is great! I'll post some pics as I progress. Thanks again. Jon
