The local courthouse told me I had to get a savaged or rebuilt title, but the paperwork they gave me says that I must provide documentation stating and proving that is was totaled or junked. The car was not totaled or junked, so I have tried my best to comply with what they want. But I ran into a guy at O'Reilly Auto Parts today that told me, "to call Frankfort because he makes dune buggies and he has always has to call Frankfort directly because the local courthouse dose not know a thing!" So I'm going to call Frankfort tomorrow and hope that they will be easier to work with!

Other than having a little trouble with getting it titled I have made some progress on the car, I have replaced the battery cables, the air filter, the spark plugs and I have ordered a new ignition switch. Tomorrow I am going to see if I can get the head lights from O'Reilly Auto Parts.
Sorry no pics my camera broke on me and my cell-phone's camera is really fuzzy.

I dont own a Bradley GT....I own a 1967 VW Beetle, thats whats going on my Title. Im not even going to mention its a kit car to the DMV, here in NY they will probably have a fit and try to confiscate it.

That is how I do it here in Ontario Canada. The older cars have Chassis numbers not VIN numbers. So I register the chassis as a 19xx VW type 1 2dr for my GT {convert for my buggies}. The important thing is that the insurance co knows exactly what it is. Any misleading them and they do not have to cover you when you get in an accident.

To Scottd
I am also in NY (Buffalo) I spent some time at the DMV and they told me they wanted it registered as whatever the chassis is (was) so according to them 19xx 2dr VW is acceptable. Not sure on insurance davidsigouin brings up a good point.

FYI, In California because the Bradley does not resemble in any way the donor vehicle, it must be registered as a "specially constructed vehicle". The only real problem is that it is considered to be the year model that you first put it on the road and must be smogged every other year to meet the requirements of the engine year. There is an out (a way to allow you to register the vehicle as the default year 1961 under SB100 process, which has no smog requirements), but I won't go into it here unless someone in California is needing to register their vehicle. Regards...

for insurance, just call Hagerty, they will be happy to insure a Bradley as long as you have a registered daily driver.

for insurance, just call Hagerty, they will be happy to insure a Bradley as long as you have a registered daily driver. This is true, here in Ontario we use Custom Wheels ins. Specialty ins co's require pics and appraisals so they know exactly what they are insuring. It is the person that uses his daily driver ins co and tells them it is a Beetle that can be left holding the bag for all costs resulting from an accident.

Called the DMV today and they told me that I can not title my Bradley GT, because I am not the one that put it together and the person that did will have all of the original recites and when I toled them I had all the original recites they said "Have a nice day!" and hung-up on me. So I will call again tomorrow and try to get some more info than that even if they do not want to talk to me!

I have found that different offices of the DMV have different attitudes with respect to being helpful. I have never had good luck with the office in the county where I live (seems their goal is to throw up as many road blocks as possible), so I go to the one in the next county over - whole different attitude, they do their best to help me accomplish what i want/need. Moral - don't accept the answer you get at a particular office, try another. Regards....

The local office did not know a thing about a kit car all they told me to do is call the main office in Frankfort. I need to get off work early enough to call them, instead of calling 15 minuets before they close, I think that may help as well!

Friday after work I stopped at the DMV to see if I could fined someone who could help me and to my surprise I found someone who is willing to help ! She said that she would call Frankfort and see if I can get a title, if I have to go throw the previous owner and have him apply she will help me contact him! On another note my new ignition switch has finely arrived and I hope to have it installed in the next few days! If the weather lets me!

In Knoxville, TN we have to take some pictures & show cost, with & without tax, then send anything to Nashville, TN. In a week or 2 the inspector shows up & goes though the car makeing sure it's safe & everything work. He then stamps ID on the frame. Take all you paper work to City Hall. The add tax to everything from out of State. Add lic, & wheel tax. Then I get a Lic. plate & paperwork as a Homebuilt. Not sure about using the VW # as everything I've done is custom with no ID.

YES, I have made some progress in getting this car titled! I had to do a lot of searching to fined the person who's name is on the title and have him fill out some paperwork. In the next few days I hope to get the title switched or at least start too!
