The GT2 was made from 1977 to 1981.
Seems to me mine had a date written somewhere on it. Will have to look.
This one is in pretty good shape, look at how well the doors fit! No "butt-sag" going on here.
When I went to title mine, they wanted the VIN off the chassis and we had to get a "bonded" title just in case someone claimed the body actually belonged to them, even though there was no VIN or serial number anywhere to be found on the body, so it would have been essentially impossible to prove.

When I saw the serial # plate on Ebay I figured that all bodies may have had them. Thanks for the VIN tip. I am very familiar with the process of registering rebodied cars in Ontario. You are 100% correct about using the original VW vin. You must title the chassis. I title my cars as a 19xx VW Type 1. For buggies I use convertible in the spot for # of doors. By doing this you are not listing a body style. Makes it less likely to get pulled over for what the police might think is stolen plates. Here are my 3 buggies. My 66 Manx clone. Power mirrors, fuel access door and trunk lid. Rotating rear lic plate {police get a kick out of this}. 1.8 914 dual carbs 66 Meyer's Manx. 2.0 injected bus engine.Ya I know the front tire is bigger, I noticed it after taking the picture. 68 Jeffries Mantaray II Kyote.

My GT II instruction book say to install the data plate inside the battery compartment. how many people did it is the question.
