Has anyone tried using the Type I, 3" body lift kit by EMPI?
If so, what were your results?

I installed a 3" channel frame from JC Whitney, I think it was an EMPI brand. Installation of it is not very complex once you have the fiberglass body loose from any fastener/bolt. You need to elevate the body no more than 5" from the chassis for the installation of an additional rubber gasket and the 4 pieces of the 3" Kit frame. I found that 3" is to much lift in between chassis/body. I would like to see a kit with 1 3/4" or 2" total hight. But that is just me. I do not regret the investment nor the work involved with it. By the way, I'm 6' tall.

If you have the standard GT II seat you can only lift the body 1" or drop the pan 1". The seat will not drop any more because of extra overhang of the seat. If you use a different seat less then 19" wide then you can raise the body or drop the pan any size you want.
I raised the body 1" on mine. I used a 1" square thin walled tubing ust and welded to fit. Somewere here some post with pics of the lift frame I made.

i made my own lift kit, but now the body is way off the wheels, if you do lift it, id recommend putting in atleast some dropspidles and a lowered beam in the front.
After actually doing it, ive decided the only real good reason to lift it, is if youre building a new subframe to strengthen it, in case of a n accident, but in that case you could probably just move the frame in , bolt the body to the pan and cut some slots for clearance, would make welding in a roll bar easier too
