I took my salvage stuff to the VW show here to sell and swap and after the show I was able to come home with a great profit of $20 . I'm not complaining I had invested about $300 and after food, fees, and fun I feel like I made out like a bandit.
There were a lot of vw's and a couple of sterlings with the whole top that opens a lot of busses and a porsche 914 with a 911 engine a real show stopper. I was disappointed with the bradley turnout, there were no bradley's this year. last year there were at least 4 bradley's .
Many of the local vw shops were there with a lot of stuff on sale a lot of individuals were selling stuff too. The real hot items were wheels and tires /used ,and misc parts for older vintage VW's ..Twin Carb set ups and progressive carb's I could have made money on chrome dash parts. I.E. glove box door, shifter knobs, dash plates for the instrument panel , grab handles, knobs. any thing chrome.
one guy walking around with a chrome shifter with a green dice shifter knob was getting a lot of attention. It was very cool.
I post a lot on craigslist but lowered my prices at the show . A set of used Baja wheels and tires I bought as salvage for $80 brought $200, I could have got $250 on the list. a lot of guys looked at my custom door panels but no buyers. Stuff I thought would never sell was the first to go . A bus speedometer sold for $20 and the chrome glove box door went for $20. I had a set of Hudson tailights that were really cool they went for $20 and then other miss. stuff finished out the day .
This is funny when you go to the salvage yard take a putty knife with you and take off as many car emblems and badges as possible they are free. I was collecting them to put on a wall in the garage but never got around to it. so I loaded them up and took them with me to the show . I sold them for a buck each. Every time a little guy came up I told them to pick one out for free . I gave away over 30 of them some kids came back twice , the added bonus was at a dollar each I made enough money to cover lunch and fees . It was a great time, and a real surprise . Who knew you could sell a Ford badge or Chrysler Emblem at a VW show. VW,Audi ,Jaguar and foreign emblems went first.
The best part of the day was talking to guys and gals about there projects. all in various stages of assembly. All eager to talk about there cars and share information.
I saw a real nice set of twin carbs in really nice condition that sold for $175 with linkage. they're was a dune buggy body for sale and a number of project cars for sale not to mention frames ,tranny's front ends. and boxes and boxes of misc parts if you wanted to go through them. A couple complete running engines went for $250 And $300.
There's another show coming up in August I'm already making plans to go. Got to get some more badges.
