Anybody got some ideas for cleaning up the dash area? I want to keep the gauges in the same place but get rid of the 70's era "veneer" look. pics would be great! haven't fixed my door fitment problem yet but i have some ideas. looks like there is some fiberglass sag where the windshield frame and the front edge of the door meet. its going to take some effort! in case anyone cares i took her out on the road the other day and it was a blast!!!

Replaced the original plastic/shelf-paper dash with stainless. (center) The area to the left will be replaced with the same.

That stainless looks great. Why not do the glove box door in it too.

I agree that everything should match, including the glove box door.

hey mj,
looks nice. i also like the stainless... did you spray the vinyl grey. if so, it looks nice. does it hold up??
i think it would like nice to create a matching ring to go around the steering column. give it a finished look...

I'm thinking there needs to be some kind of trim around the steering column hole also. Maybe extend the switch plate on the left all the way across, with a drop down to cover that area.

From whats visible of the interior , its really clean , got any other pics of the car .... you might try Empi catalog for ideas . I just picked up a chrome glove box door and am playing around with dash designs. I see you have brushed aluminum for the gauges you can get brushed aluminum from the machine shop , and they can do cut outs for radio's clocks' ect. you have to draw it out though. Looks nice . good luck ...Dave

If you cover it like the center , you could use black edging like door edge guard for the glove box door that might look sharp.
I'm moving my switches and installing my stereo where the the switches are now it all takes time but seeing the end results is a real booster ,makes me want to get out in the garage. Dave

For the center dash I simply handed the original to a retired machinist and he cut it out, properly beveled on the edges, perfect. He's a good guy and is now 100% retired. No more real old-time machinists left around here, just CAD machine operators.
Yes, the whole dash needs a complete redesign to fit the style of the center.
Paint? I forgot the name brand, but it is intended for vinyl, including seats and it was on the shelf at the local shop. I'll try to remember to check the brand next time I am there. Maybe I'll repaint the dash white. ;D
One last thing - when the carpet was installed, the guy used bright aluminum strips for the edges. It causes a bright and distracting glare at the rear of the rear window. I'm replacing it with flat black ASAP.

A white dash might cause a glare also.

A white dash might cause a glare also. It sure will. I was just kidding.
