Greetings All, I just picked up a decent GT. Needs a few things, but not in terrible shape. First on my to-do list is replace a dead battery. I truly hate the location. There may have been a door to take it out the top, but that's been changed and upholstered over. I'm going to have to remove the shock and try to snake it out over the axle. Pretty stupid. Seems like a good idea to move rear weight to the front in this car. Is this common/easy?
Also, I've been trying to find a decent deal on seats. Are the current poly highbacks too tall? They are certainly budget friendly and look to have replaced the thin fiberglass highbacks from days passed.
Much appreciated.

My GT2 has the battery right behind the right rear tire inside the engine compartment. the plywood is cut out for access. My GT has the battery in the regular vw location behind the passenger seat. That is weird having to take out the shock..... I would definitely change the location .

Hi Loves2nap, Greetings All, ...... Seems like a good idea to move rear weight to the front in this car. Is this common/easy? Much appreciated. There is almost no room under the front end of a GT. I couldn't even figure out a good way to place the battery there and make it accessible. Instead, I made a battery holder and installed it just in front of the rear axle. Mine is a swing axle chassis. To change the battery I put jack stands under the rear and use a hydraulic floor jack to remove and replace the battery. It helps to remove the right rear wheel, but is not totally necessary. Gary Hammond,
