Hey guys - sorry in advance for the block of text - here's some context to my questions:
I've been doing a lot of work on my Bradley project and I've finished overhauling the engine and replacing the fuel tank. Runs like a charm! When I was doing this, I found that I have a 6V starter and flywheel off of I think a type 2? (I have a 12v system and previously had issues with 6v parts, namely the ignition coil. I should be fine keeping the 6v starter for the time being, though, as long as I am conservative with how long I hold the starter). I installed the proper Bowden tube as the old one had deteriorated past the point of recognition, and I also replaced the awful clutch and pressure plate with a type 2 6v clutch and removed the centering ring and the arms and springs that hold that in place (Example) to work with my transaxle. My pan is a '63 and my engine is a '73 dual port, but I couldn't tell you what the transaxle or suspension or brakes are from. The brakes are drum brakes and are some sort of 5 lug (maybe Chevy pattern? not 5x205 or 5x130) which I'm in the process of prepping for a disc brake swap. The rear suspension used to be a swing axle and was converted to an IRS at home and boy is it awful. My camber is probably at -20 degrees or worse and the welds holding it on are pretty bad. From what I can tell it could only be adjusted lower if I so attempted to do so. My mounts for the transaxle are the "ear" style mounts used through '72 and have been spaced up by 1/4" to provide room for the CV joints next to the frame. This is also causing some other issues as you could imagine. I've almost finished saving up to have the whole rear suspension torn out and replaced with something significantly better - I've got a VW mechanic friend who is letting me work with him in his shop for my jobs.
With that said: I've got a problem that I hope someone may be able to provide some insight into, and I am looking for some info for identifying and replacing parts of the suspension/drivetrain.
1) Since I replaced my clutch/pressure plate, the clutch sticks pretty bad right at the point of engagement. It didn't do this before, and I've tried oiling up my pedals. Any thoughts on what might cause this and how to alleviate the issue?
2) Does anyone know how I might go about identifying my transaxle and axles so that I can purchase the proper rear suspension and brake parts. I am considering just replacing the axles anyways considering the condition of everything else and considering I'm going to be entirely replacing and welding on a different rear suspension, in which case, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the different IRS long/short axles.
