I discovered a hole in my manifold and was looking on how it is mounted. Does the engine need to be dropped to replace it? It runs behind the carb and under the generator.

Hi Leonard, I'm confused. Are you asking about the exhaust manifold or the intake manifold? Do you have the single port system or the dual port system? I'm assuming that you're asking about the intake manifold, as any air leak in it would cause hard starting and a very lean fuel mixture. There is an exhaust heat crossover pipe that goes from side to side to provide exhaust heat to the carb for better fuel vaporization. The crossover pipe is permanently attached to the intake tube. In the single port system the pipes are welded together, and in the dual port system the crossover pipe is permanently attached to the removable center section of the intake manifold. You shouldn't need to drop the engine, but you may need to remove the generator stand and maybe the fuel pump and distributor in order to remove the assembly. Gary Hammond,

Gary, I don't have your cell phone number so the pic didn't go though. Could you give me a call and give me your cell number if you have one?

Hi Leonard, Got the pictures OK. That hole is definitely in the crossover tube. The tube looks pretty rusty but could be patched with some thin sheet metal and a couple of hose clamps for a temporary repair. Long term repair would be to replace the entire intake and crossover assembly. If you want to replace it, I'd be happy to help you in my shop if you want. Gary Hammond,

Going to the Napa Auto shop tomorrow for some clamps and muffler goop. I should be able to find a can thick enough for a patch. If that doesn't work, I might take a drive to central Illinois. Thanks for your response and help.

If you want to replace it, I have a dualport intake manifold you can have for the cost of shipping it from New Jersey. Let me know..

This is a single port engine, so don't think it would work. I've got it patched up for now and doesn't look too bad. Thanks though.
