So I ordered some Empi valve cover gaskets and got them today. Replaced both sides after cleaning all surfaces, but the passenger side is leaking. Took it off, cleaned and resealed it, and it still leaks. What's the best way to go about this? I thought about ordering new covers, which I will likely need to do as they are the chrome plated ones and this particular side is pretty rusty. Should I try a different gasket as well?

Lots of reasons why they might be leaking. Weak bales, bent valve covers, no use of sealant.
Clearly sealant is not supposed to be used but some aircraft sealant often works. I have also used a thin application of grey silicone.

I used Indian head sealant on them. Should I clean that side off and try it without the sealant? Are the Empi gaskets good to use?

I like a small amount of Elring Dirko grey personally.
Any type of cork gaskets should be fine. Make sure they are perfectly seated...that is usually the problem when it leaks.

Ok I got some cork gaskets, replaced the passenger side and ran it for several minutes we ith no leak. Revved it and held it for a couple minutes, no leak. Took it down the street and now its leaking again. Next step is replacing the covers/bales. So should I go with the same style cover with bales or should I go with bolt on?

Hi Paul, I have finned aluminum, bolt on valve covers with cork gaskets on mine. They don't leak, but I do use Hi-temp silicone seal on the bolts. Here's a link to picture of it in my shop. Gary Hammond,
