In the process of buying a GT and one of the items I am trying to figure out is the seating. I know me being 6'3" is an issue but the GT I am looking at has some new 6 point racing seat in it that sits very tall and looking at photos of original GT not even close to the incline of the original seats. Without either doing a body lift and/or drop pans, as this GT was put on a fully restored frame/pans has anyone come up with a decent alternative seating that allows for a reclining seat which would give me the headroom?
GT vs GT2 seats question, were they the same? Did either have sliding/adjustable seats? Would GT2 seats work in a GT?
I am not looking to make this a daily driver, more of a fun Sunday/show car but I would like to be able to have the driver door close and with the door off not be looking over the roof line :-) And before anyone tries to lecture me that I should have researched and know the headroom concerns, I did, still want the car just looking for alternative ideas.

My gt has original equipment sliding seats. As I am only 5 ft 8 in, I can clear the top with ease even with extra padding in the seat. When I really want to see behind me, and the top is off, I sit up straight and look out the top. I get a lot of funny looks doing it. :-)

Hi, I'm in the same situation as Leonard. We're both about the same height and both have the original seats with sliders. I installed long bolts through the front of my slide rails and double nutted them to the floor pan so I can adjust the tilt-back angle for a little more head room. This works fine for me and my wife, but my sons and grandsons are too tall for it. They range from 5'-10" to 6'-3". You can gain an easy 3" with a floor pan drop and even more with a body lift. The floor pan drop is the easiest to do, but your legs will be straight out in front of you while driving. Gary Hammond,

Factory seats are the best. GT and GT2 seats are significantly different. Can the GT seats be cut and used (they have a lip on the outer edge of the seat? Sure...but GT seats are best.
The client I built a GT for had them professionally done. They came out FANTASTIC! I wish I still had a good photo hosting site so I could post pics of them.
I added a 4" body lift when I built his GT...I am 6'2" and I was well down inside the vehicle.
There is no OEM seat that will work well. Its not just about reclining...its about head support

The floor drop is fairly easy. Of course you can't drop the area underneath the pedals so your feet are about seat bottom level. I have a pair of seats from a Suzuki/Geo Tracker in my GT. I had to cut down the base height to make them fit but they recline and the backs tilt forward for access to the rear storage and battery area. As a result I have a pair of GT seat buckets if you are interested.
