Does anyone know the approx. weight of the GT II?
Wikipedia shows the curb weight of the basic Type I Beetle to be 1,800 Lb.
I'm starting to think about building an engine for my car and trying to get an idea how much "Work" I will be asking the engine to do. Reliability is important but I'd like a little more pep then the stock 1600cc.

Not much difference from stock beetle. GT1 was lighter than VW but the addition of creature comforts like doors and bumpers pushed the weight up on GT2. Someone has an exact weight I’m sure.

The GT2 body weighs about 300+ lbs.
my wife & I can lift the body
I'm certain it's much lighter than a VW Beetle
In my humble opinion,
I'd say you'd be pushing about 1300 lbs

Hi Guys,  Mike, I think you are off a little on the weight. The GT II has to be a little heavier than a GT. According to the GT build manual the average curb weight of a finished GT is 1450 lbs. As best I recall when I actually weighed mine it was around 1475 or 1500 lbs. Horen2t, was the front and rear glass in the body when you lifted it?
Maybe the build manual for the GT II has a curb weight also….. I don't have a copy.

I think Gary has a better handle on the weight than I guessed at.
The doors on the "twoie" have to weigh in more than the GT
When I lifted the body it was without the roof, doors, or glass.

GT2 body is about 600lbs according to the manual. I assume that is with doors, glass, etc.

Jslay absolutely Not! The scale was either imaginary or broken.
The body is 600 according to the manual. So the chassis of a beetle is 2600lbs ?
