I would like to know what is the best oil (grade/type) to keep my engine happy and try and reduce heat 73 1600 type 1 single port stock? Also just under the carb on the intake manifold is a little nipple I have read it is called a vacume port does this need to be left open, plugged, or connected to something, I do have a electronic distributor.

By Far the very best oil is Brad Penn 40 weight racing oil, order it by the case.
It's green in color but don't let that throw you off, seal that vacuum nipple with a little rubber cap
it should run a lot better, there's also one sometimes on the side of the carb - seal that too.

^^^Yes^^^
As a general rule of thumb....you should never have an open vacuum port. They should all be in use or capped.
