I lowered the body onto the pan the other day and found that the shifter would just about strike the new custom dash in the 2 and 4 positions. It seemed to be a bit of a stretch to reach from the seat anyway so I decided to move the shifter and emergency brake back 5". I'm glad I decided to cut open the tunnel as I found a lot of scaly rust, a deserted rat's nest and a badly worn shift rod bushing. I ordered a new bushing, vacuumed out the crud and sprayed Ospho into the tunnel with a garden sprayer. I would have taken pictures but my 10mp camera takes only 80p blue photos. Tomorrow I'll tackle shortening the brake cables and shifter rod. I've got to wait until the bushing comes in the mail before I can seal up the tunnel again. I might run new heater cables and housings while I wait or I might use electric servos to turn on the heat. The old cables have seized and there's no moving them.

I moved my shifter back 13" and shortened it to about 6". It has a very short and precise throw. I call it my " joystick" ;D Gary Hammond,

The bushing came in yesterday's mail so tonight I'll get busy reassembling the tunnel. I ended up moving the shifter and brake back a total of 9 inches.

I finished up this little project this weekend. I took several pics of the process too with my nearly antique PDA. Now if I could just get the stupid thing to sync to something...I ended up making a removable cover for the tunnel section in front of the shifter. I recycled the door from the washing machine that became my fuel tank into a (in my opinion) sweet cover with 2 big gulp sized cup holders sunk in. Photos soon...
