I am getting ready to drop the engine out of my GT 2 to do some work on it. While I have it out I wanted to re-do the engine compartment. I had thought about using diamond plate metal to line the compartment but I am concerned about heat build up. I would also like to make a piece to fit in and make a floor panel and another around the fan shroud. I plan on adding insulation against the firewall to cut down noise. Any info or advise on the diamond plate and what insulation to use would be appreciated. Also, wondering what to do to the 1600cc original engine to give it a little more HP.
Thanks

Thin diamond sheet will not cause heat problems. Regarding noise insulation, it is a good idea to use aircraft closed cell composite (rubber like) soundproofing inside the cabin, under carpet in the back. I have a 1/2" layer there and cannot hear the engine. It is, IMHO, mandatory to separate the top of the engine from the cylinders. This is not prety but works very well. Also, the scoop on the engine lid is supposed to be made functional, and is easily made so. Many builders ignore that and it just becomes a style statement. It is a very well engineered scoop so that not only does it bring in fresh air, but throws rain to the outside to drain in the rear back of the lid, out of the vehicle. The quickest improvement for a stock engine is dual kadron carbs.
