Well the other day ago, I took my little cousin for a joy ride during his graduation party and now I'm having trans issues. If I ease into 1st gear on a straight of way it stays in gear fine, if I start off turning or try to accelerate quick, it pops out of 1st. Parking in 1st on incline is still fine. And when I was on my way home today, it was giving me crap going into 3rd as well.
I'm hoping it is just the shift linkage is loose, but wanted to see if anyone else has had similar issues and what would be recommended to fix it.

I would do the following: 1. Inspect your tranny mounts. Especially the front one. 2. Inspect your shift coupler 3. If #1 & #2 are both ok then adjust your shifter.

So it appears that this is what I need... no, i have'nt pulled the seat to rip out the carpet in back yet, I hated tearing the carpet by the shifter as it is. once the rain here stops, i will be pulling the seat to cut out the opening, and then use adheasive backed velcro to re-secure the carpet over the inspection cover. Please correct me if im wrong

Your shift rod was never cut so you can ignore 90% of that post.
There are two different types of couplers. Make sure you get the right one.
And check your tranny mounts.

While you are at it replace the shifter bushing too. You won't regret it

I had a problem with not being able to shift into 1st or 2nd gear. I happened about 40 miles from home. Did you ever try to start from a full stop in 3ed gear? major clutch slipping! I found the plate on top of the shifter had shifted and wouldn't let the shifter move far enough left for the gears to engage. I loosened the bolts and moved the plate to the left and all was good. Just a thought.

Leonard, no 1st or 3rd, so no i cant start in 3rd, but i imagian you had to floor it and start VERY slow.
From what I saw underneath the car today, it appears that I need a new Transmission mount, as the rubber is badly deteriorated. I put the car up on jack stands in the front and rear of the pan, then jacking the engine with an atv/motorcycle lift showed there was a lot of play in the engine/trans moving up and down...
I didn't pull the shifter back off to check alignment when I was looking that over because its still outside waiting for my father to get his POS goldwings put back together and out of my polebarn. He has had his 5 bikes in there for the past 2 months, only one runs, the oldest and smallest one (250 Yahama exciter). One 1100 Goldwing needs a timing belt, one 1100 goldwing needs starter, the other 750 honda statter or something dealing with ignition, the 1100 yahama carbs rebuilt...
