my car still has the filter next to the carb. And i feel a little akward about the fuel tank being directly over the trans and near the engine. Any better setup people are doing?

Not much room for it any other place. The nose of the car has such little room. I would prefer it in the stock location versus mounting it in the passenger compartment.
Make sure you are not using one of those cheap plastic filters. A nice metal one with 1/4" nipples is best. And usually before the fuel pump.

I have been considering moving my gas tank from above the transaxle to the the VW stock location up front. The problem is that there is not much room for it due to the sleak GT 1 fiberglass body. I would have to go with a flat tank with less fuel capacity, and lift the body to install it. I barely have enough fuel capacity as it is, so I am leaving mine the way it is.

i just worry about the risk of a fuel leak. here in the salt belt the tank could develop a leak due to rust. time will tell i guess.

I believe you can get a poly tank from a marine supplier that might be close if that will put your mind at ease.

That's a great idea. I should figure out where to put the fuel filter. Right now it's just suspended by the hoses.
