I have a 1500 single port installed in my GTII and i am having trouble turning it over it has a new coil and distributor and the guy i bought it from drove up to his shop with this motor in his car so i know it runs. I have the green distributor wire going to the left side of the coil and a wire running from my starter but it seems like i am getting no spark! Help i have to get this on the road and have some fun! the project has been awesome but for this one hiccup les

Check that you are getting power to the other side of the coil. Check that the underside (inside) of the distrubutor is not damp. Also check the point gap (old timers would use the cover of a matchbook) and file the points. Points are a chronic problem so I would consider switching to some form of solid state ignition. I use a DIS-IX that only uses the distributor for reference.

The left side is meaningless. The coil is round and will rotate 360 degrees. Make certain the distributor wire is connected to the minus pole of the coil. The power from ignition should be attached to the positive pole.

First step, I'd find out if you have spark or not. Pull one of the wires and put it on a spare plug. Hold the threads against some bare metal on the engine while someone else cranks it. Don't shock yourself. (Unless you want to, that is! ;D ) If you've got a bright, blue spark, your ignition is OK, and the prob has to be in the timing or the carb. If it's a weak, yellow spark, or isn't there at all, you'll have to dig more into the ignition side of it.
Also, backtrack your steps. What have you done to the engine since it ran last? One of those is the likely culprit. I agree with smyrnaguy, it's probably in how the coil is wired.

I had this same problem. It turned out to be as wire in the distributor that had burned.

Done...its ALIVE...turned out to be a reversed coil polarity issue and the wires wouldn't reach. turned the coil and...awesome. I am looking to take her on a maiden once around the bock this weekend, wish me luck.
