I”m looking to convert back to a one barrel carburetor. I feel the two barrel is feeding to much gas to the engine. Like to have some input as what you think about this.
Thanks Kensaw

Depends on what type of carb you have. I have dual 1 barrel solex's and they are a fantastic upgrade.
You can always go back to stock. It will run as intended but not as much power.

I am running a Corvair engine with dual Weber Carbs - each side is a two barrel on a 6 inch riser, and properly adjusted, my engine runs great. There are screw adjusters in most carbs I have worked with so you can adjust the gas flow by adjusting the metering screws. My son has a VW with two carb setup and we adjusted his metering screws for a smooth idle and replaced the jets in the carbs to reduce gas flow under higher rpms.
If you have high rise intake like I do, the fuel going to the combustion chamber, until the engine warms up a little, it idles poorly as the fuel is not properly vaporized. You might run a richer mixture to compensate for the fuel that condenses on its journey through the intake manifolds, when the engine is cold, but that sucks as the pooling of this condensed fuel in the manifolds will sucked into the combustion chambers all at once when you open up the throttle making a too rich mixture until the fuel burns off. A choke allows you to control the situation until the engine warms up.

The single two-barrel carb to feed all four is just terrible. It has never been good except at wide-full-open.
Dual Kadrons work much better, in fact I'd say perfectly.

Thanks for all the input. I have been playing with the carb is is getting a little better. I might just make it work after all. I have another problem I got a EMPI T-handle shifter it will not work with the reverse lock out plate. It works good with out it. Got to love the VW's always something to do on them...lol

i have a holly dual barrel and a PIS intake on my single port MG kit and it is a good carburetor, lots of power, good sound, its not quite as efficient and tight as i think it should be, but i need to do a rebuild on it i feel, but is definitely a better running engine with that carb than with the stock solex that was designed to keep people who were uset to driving chevys breaking the car. rather than letting the engine breath like it really needs to.
