We have a Manx II now, and have been jones'n for one of these old Bradley GTs since a classmate's dad had one when we were in the 2nd grade. I came across this one for sale that's not too far away, the thing that scares me is the engine out and him saying it needs some work. What's your opinion, and why? www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1424499

Not a bad start. Here is my usualy advice..ask him to take a picture under the dash.
I bet there is a 100% chance you will need a full re-wire. Are you ready for that?
I would also check to make sure both doors and the rear hatch are perfect.

With the back window & both doors in good cond, you may be about $1000.00 ahead of the game already. I just did an engine for $750.00 with a lot of new major parts.

I sent a message asking him to call me so I can ask a few questions. Everything else I have looked at has either been rough as a cob, or restored past what I want to spend. The wiring doesn't scare me too much, it's all these little Bradley specific things that had me worried.

They aren't much more than a long wheel base buggy to be perfectly honest.

I just got off the phone with the owner and he said the windshield was cracked and the passenger gullwing had a piece broken off of it.

The windshields are late 1960's corvette hardtop glass and might cost you a few hundred to replace. The plexiglass doors are still made (occasionally) by Sun Ray Products, their information is on another post or two on this website. The owner runs off some doors every few years. Can't see the windshield crack in the photos however if its not more than a "star" they can be fixed without replacing the glass for about $50. It has the tinted doors which is nice. My drivers door plexi has a long (8-9 inches) crack which I superglued back together and its holding for now

Looks all there and for a good starting price maybe, well I'm thinking closer to 1200 to 1500 bucks. Your probibly looking at 2500 to get it going if the engine is not to bad. I think I would figure closer to 1500 for the engine and a grand for the rest if you don't do a body lift and don't paint it. Looks fun! But it is a great idea to check out the wiring you can always tell if your going to be pushing or riding in the car the most. People tend to get the car together half ass and than rush the wiring. You can always tell workmenship by the wiring. Needs a wiper motor, mirrors from what I can see there is a fue bucks there to. Fun Fun

BrotherBob is a stand up guy. If he tells you something about the car then it is in truth. I was thinking about running up to Fort Worth to snag that one but I just need more time with the buggy before I return to a Bradley. It would be a great buy at $1000. I think the $1500 is ok if you are doing everything yourself.

engine out of the car,
I would write the engine off unless he can start it on the floor for you.
needs minor electrical work
What does he consider minor? To some a complete rewire is minor as there are not a lot of cicuits to deal with, for others fixing a tail light circuit is major.
sits on a IRS pan,
This is good but it most likely has ball joints. While not as durable as link pins they provide a nicer feel to the ride. Ball joints on a VW are a little tricky to check properly compared to link pins.
Ansen 14" Wheels and like new tires,
Like new tires? Looks mean nothing. Date stamps are more important.
Title in my name.
This is a good thing as it reduces your headaches when registering.
One thing I would do is get rid of that rediculous exhaust. You will find out very quickly how good it is at tripping people.
Windshield damage can sometimes be fixed but the doors are expensive.
$1000 is the top I would pay given this information.

When I mentioned "are you ready for that" on the re-wire it meant a few things: 1. The cost. While not excessive you are looking at close to $400 for you to do it right. 2. Your skill in wiring a car from front to back. Personally I don't find it hard but many people do. Not meant to be a criticism...just that some people struggle with it. 3. The physical aspect of doing it. Its ALOT of time on your back if you don't remove the body from the pan. In the 10 kits I have built I have never wired one on the pan. I have always removed the body and lifted it up and literally sat under it.
