I am having a small prob.. The exhaust that I have on my Gt 1 is sitting about an inch off the ground. I have looked and found some other types but they will not allow me to have a heater witch I need here in Colorado. Does any one have any suggestions for something that has worked well for you. Here is a pic of my engine and a couple of ideas. Thanks for the input! . . .

You can go with one per the link, it lets you use your heater. Though they produce a nice sound, you will loose performance compared to the true extractor system you now have. www.pacificcustoms.com/TM310221BK.htmlWarmest Regards...

I haven't see that type yet. They look like they would be a lot less cumbersome than the header system that I am using. They just keep hitting everything right at the center point of the header.

Hi Roodog I have a similar problem with my exhaust but I've got about 3 1/2" clearance which I can live with I've had similar problems and have been up and down the block with who's got the best system. I did try ordering a new manifold from Cip-1 but what they sent me was poorly fabricated as you can see in the pix the No.1 side flange was off about six inches CIP told me to bend it so it would fit and I told them to take it back after a lot of hassles and threats they refunded my $175 I have a few suggestions before you start throwing a lot of money at it: One thing I did was take my manifold off and study it as my problem was slightly different than yours in that my pipes had gotten bent off to the right by Uhaul loading my Twoie onto a trailer without being careful. I was able to bolt the flanges to a wooden post in my garage and using a jack slowly bend the the whole thing back into shape. this view shows where I think you have room to squeeze the whole thing tighter together and get yourself some more ground clearance marked off by the red rectangle. You'll need to make sure you have all the flanges bolted down tight and then figure a way to press down on the whole thing little by little. If you or a friend has a torch to get some heat on where you're bending that would probably help. The most important thing is to keep the flanges from changing position so the whole thing will fit on the motor and heater boxes when you put it back. My one caution is don't try to do it while it's on the engine because you run the risk of cracking something or snapping studs. Here's my set-up on the bench I was able to get everything straightened out and re-use my old manifold. Good luck with yours I hope this helps!

Check out this site, www.gdownusa.comI'll be getting one of these kits for my blue 74 when its closer to being done. The main difference with my plan is torun all the way up and have lakepipes going back... You'll see what I mean.

The header on my car is almost exactly like the one you have. The only real difference is mine uses a single muffler. Still the lowest point is the exhaust tip and that is 5 1/2" above the road. Are you perhaps using 14" wheels with low profile tires? Has the suspension been indexed too low. I'm guessing that the engine might drag over a speedbump, railroad track or manhole cover. By any chance does the engine lean a bit toward the rear?

The car has 13" wheels on it. But its not sagging at least I didn't think until i looked at the torsion arms. It looks like they are almost a half inch off of the bottom stop. Should it be all the way on that stop? That might give me a little more... As of now I have removed the header and am attempting to make a jig to put it in to heat it up and bend the port up. It will only give me about an inch and a half. .MY tire is a little low for some reason but not enough to show how it is sitting. . .

Hi Chad, Nice looking GT you have there. Here's some pix of a Monza style exhaust I had on mine. I modified it to have the exhaust tips come out above the muffler instead of below. It was a little louder than I wanted on my modified engine so I replaced it with a system I made from scratch. I would be willing to sell it for $20 + shipping if you're interested. Here's what I replaced it with. Gary Hammond,

Larger diameter wheels will lift the engine significantly as well as improve fuel economy. You'll run lower rpms at all speeds. I have nearly identical wheels but they are 15". They have 215/70 tires mounted and fill the wheel wells. 60 mph = 2980 rpm. I'll bet your engine runs 8-10% higher for the same speed. Nice looking car you have.

Ya I figured that the wheel change would help the ride height. I just wasn't wanting to go that way just yet $$$. I have the car tor down for the winter for the big shifter and E brake 11 inch move. I gave it a three inch body lift and a two inch pan drop to fit my new racing seats. Just last night got the steering coll em and steering box all re aligned. I need to get tires for it so I was thinking about just getting some meat on these rims to give it an inch or two for now. I am neck deep in a total interior over haul at the moment with Bradley embroidered door panels and seat backs. New carpet and vinyl dash and headliner overlay. Oh and Gary thanks for the Offer on the pipes they look great! In a couple of weeks if the offer still stands and my creation doesn't work with heating up the header and moving the out port up I might just take you up on that. Thanks for your Great Ideas!
