I just baught this GT1 and I stand six foot five. I have no haed room at all in fact I can't drive the car unless I take the top off. I baught some seats for it but they are 4 inches to tall. I was thinking about unbolting the body and putting a 4 inch c channel iron spacer between the pan and the body. Has anyone done this before and does anyone have any thoughts. Thanks

I built a 3" lift for a customers GT. I will post some pics on Friday.
Seats are also very important. What kind are you using? Most production seats won't work well. You can also drop the floors for more headroom.

Welcome to the Club Chad!
Unless you are prepared for what could be a long term project, I would not pull the body yet. start off building yourself a square tube framed ressesed floor, maybe have it taper towards the back. like a 1" drop by the front of the seat, and tapering down to 2" by the back of the pan... this will tilt you back further and lower and should give you about the clearence you need. does your seat have slides or is it stationary?

I am 6'2" 300lbs. In my 68 Ghia I made 3" pockets {non tapered, ramped at leading edge flat where the seat is} and used Volvo 850 seats fully adjustable. The pockets are actually 3/4 inch below the rocker panels. My Gt2 also has pockets but they are 2.5 inches. It uses Nissan 240 seats with the adj tracks removed. Pockets are easy to make using Z bent steel. Visit the wrecking yards, there are a lot of better seats to choose from.

Well I baught some really nice ralley seats with tracks on them for I think a mustang 2. With the tracks on them the seat sticks out of the top at least 6 inches. So I took the tracks off and it droped it down to 4 inches above the roof unless I lay them completely back witch I'm ok with but is not really all that comfortable after a while. The pan is full of rust holes right under the seats so I needed to cut the pans out of both sides anyway. So I think I can drop the seats a couple of inches with some fabed pans. But I am still thinking that I need a little lift anyway to fit my short swing scatt shifter in under the front edge of the dash.

A 3" pan drop and a 2" body lift should work out nicely for you. While you have everything disassembled I would also suggest moving the shifter and parking brake back a few inches. I moved mine back 9 inches making shifting much more comfortable and dash clearance a breeze. I was also able to install a couple of cup holders in the hump at the old shifter location.

thanks for all of your replys I plan on intergradeing all of them in my project. I do like the composit decking idea for the spacer instead of channel or square tubing. And all the info on shifter relocation is great! I wanted to do it but didn't know if it would mess anything up in the prosses. Don't quite know how I am going to get the shifter shaft out due to I don't have the room to remove the whole body and work on the chassey seperate. I was planning on just liftig it a foot or two in the air to do the body lift. Than placeing it back down. I'm pretty crafty though so I'm thinking I can figure it out. Thanks again. If you have anymore nifty ideas for me I'm all ears!

Found one of these awesome cars in the back of some out of service poultry houses...... it is the gt model... what is the value of these cars... it is in very rough condition

Hi, Roo,
Be careful with raising the body too high. It can and will distort the steering box-to-dash geometry. A minor correction isn't a problem for the box, but an extensive raise will force you to relocate your column-to-dash arrangement.
Also, there is a factory drawing for the Bradley Automotive Pan Drop on my CD, as well as a dozen or two images of installing the drop on my car's chassis.
BTW, my wife, daughter and I do English Setter rescue, and we have one of three adopted dogs that "roo." Other breeds do that as well, but I just wondered...

I had an english bulldog that lived for thirteen years I had to put her down last year due to cancer. Her name was Roo. She was my kiddo. I am a truck driver and she use to go with me every day, a co capton of sorts.

Thanks for the info on the stearing isue when the body is lifted. I have ran into that just today infact. I bought a u joint knuckel to put on the stearing shaft to allow for the differance in pitch. I hope it will work but we will see.
