It appears that you are running an electric fuel pump mounted to the left of the engine. Ir will perform better under the tank. That fuel shutoff is better closer to the front {if you have an engine fire it can be accessed easier}. A word of advice. Get that fuel filter out of the engine bay, replace the fuel hoses with proper fuel hose, clamp all hose connections and safety wire the fitting at the carb.
Dist vac is connected wrong. Nice looking car.

Welcome to the board. Looks like you have a solid car to customize and improve.

Looks like a good solid vehicle. I like those wheels. I would suggest adding the missing engine tin and if you intend to use an electric fuel pump then remove the mechanical one and cap off the mount. With no liquid in it to keep the diaphram wet it will eventually dry out, rupture and begin to dump oil. Also install a hose between the crankcase vent and the air cleaner. For better performance get a 4 into 1 header for the exhaust and heat exchangers if you need/want heat.

Thanks for all the great advice You see a lot of engines missing that lower tin for some reason . The fuel filter setup with the clear lines was going the glass bodied filters aren't as fragile. Good call on that mechanical pump there is some aluminum a delete plate can be made from. Heat isn't much of an issue but better performance would be nice . Right now insurance is a priority Hagerty won't cover it Grundy wants all your cars to be covered with them. So the hunt is on for good insurance if the PO had just kept the VW title it would have been easier . I'm retired my daily driver is a 1976 CitiCar electric car and some places won't accept that as a regular use vehicle. But it will get figured out one way or another . Rich H

Do not block the fuel pump. Leave it in place as it provides the necessary pressure to keep the dist drive properly engaged in the crank gear. Without it timing will fluctuate. If the pump diagram does manage to break who cares as you are not using it. There is no oil pressure to the bottom of the pump. All pumps are lubed when you pack the bottom of them with grease prior to installing them.

Well the fine folks at Allstate said they would cover the car. But they aren't cheap lol but atleast it's a well known company. I would bet there could be a whole thread on insurance horror stories .

Call Leland-West. I had my Ferrari with them and they were fantastic to work with and cheap. Sorry, I don't have the number handy.
Good luck! Jim

Decided to do some poking around to see why the fuel gauge didn't work. Well no wires connected to it or the sending unit could explain it . Getting the wires on the sending unit with the tank still in the car lead to colorful language but it's working now. The best thing so far is was the rubber cement used to lock the speedo cable to the bearing cover . Stuff like that puts a grin on my face and keeps me busy.
Has anyone hinged the small back window? Seems like that would come in handy . It's a fun project and a great car to drive.

Hi Jason, I got the seal from JC Whitney several years ago. I'm not sure they have that particular one any more. There have been several suggested sites on this forum in the past for weatherstrip. Do a site search for weatherstrip and maybe for moulding or rubber moulding. Gary Hammond,
