Jeff Troy for the CD Sun Ray Products for the doors (hold onto something tight...they are expensive) Gauges just about anywhere. Try www.egauges.com its a great site. Your gauges look fine most likely lousy wiring or a bad sender.

Welcome to the site. Your ride is looking good and should look even better once the paint is done. I have noticed a few things that need immediate attention. 1 get all those fuel filters out of the engine bay. Use a quality metal filter. Replace the fuel lines. Clamp all connections. 2 separate the hot side of the engine from the cold side. Just like the Ghias were. 3 Your generator stand bolts are loose and 2 are missing. 4 your gen strap appears to be loose. 5 that small tube pointing upwards from the oil filler tube connects to the air filter housing. 6 figure out a way to get an air filter on it. 7 back of the carb, just below the vacuum ports, looks to be covered in sealer. There should be a small metal plug there 8 as you have a 009 mech advance dist you will probably have a hesitation on accel from a stop. 9 looks like someone had a/c on it at one time. Hook up the fresh air tubes from the fan should to the exhaust heat exchangers to help cool down the heads. 10 your oil pressure switch for the oil light is not hooked up. It looksike you do not have the sender for the oil pressure gauge. 11 the tube your throttle cable passes through should have a hose clamp on the front side of the cooling shroud to keep the tube from moving. You should not need that offset spacer under the carb. VW parts are readily available. www.cip1.com What are the first 3 digits of the vin number stamped on the floor tunnel just in front of the hole where your shift linkage connects to the tranny?

Thanks for all of the replies and definitely thanks for that awesome advice on how to get started. I am going to pull the body off over the next few weeks and start on a ground up rebuild. Biggest issue at the moment is I have no garage so its in my parents garage nearly an hour away from me.
The car does run and drive well enough but it pulls like a wet noodle and the front end wobbles when driving.
Is 250 a door the right price? i saw it on google somewhere and that really isn't too expensive.
The gauges I plan on swapping out for digital. I like the original VDO gauges but I like the functionality and visibility of the digitals.
It also does still have AC but I am thinking about just removing it. I don't plan on daily driving it so I don't think ill need it.
Last thing I was wondering, Has anyone done automatic headlight door llifters? I hate the thought of having to dig down to that lever when I need to lower them and would love to just be able to push a button.

Linear actuator for the headlight doors.
$500 for a pair of plexi doors is about right...and is expensive.
Most Brads don't have air.

Well ya I guess for this kind of car it is expensive. I'm used to working on my 04 gti and 500 is cheap for it. I contacted sun ray and it is indeed 250 per door. I may just buy hardware and have a local plexiglass guy cut and mold one for me.

So far no one has successfully molded and cut the doors out of plexi except Sun Ray. The radius' at the front and back are different making it a bit more difficult to form. Really have to make a over and under form of something that can stand up to the heated plexi to be successful. The other problem with the plexi doors in general is even the ones bought from Sun Ray have to be custom cut down to fit (not a quick process on the brittle plexi) and they are easily broken, requiring replacing often.
Warmest....

I am going to work on this all day Sunday and I am going to base the few repairs I will do on what you posted about the motor. Can you recommend any products to go ahead and buy? The garage I will be working in is an hour round trip from the closest auto parts store.

Check out bobs web site he did an interesting automatic headlight conversion kitcar.vacau.com/ it works i played with them the other day for a little bit while trying to time a relay to make them open and close with the headlight switch, a friend is going to try and do a set of doors for me he does a lot of vacuforming and plexi work on industrial signs he thinks it is possible to make doors for a lot less I am sending off my new untouched set of factory doors to him to make a form to shape the doors fingers crossed more worried about the UPS people breaking them than anything those videos of them tossing boxes over fences keps running through my head. On the headlights i saw a guy at a car show he had an electric antenna from a 2008 crown vic he modified to push and pull the doors shut seemed to work pretty good as well. Definately get Jeff Troys cd it is filled with some good stuff hope it turns out good for you about 3 1/2 hours away from you in the sikeston missouri area
