Hi, Well last week was the pits for me! The clutch cable broke last Thursday as I was approaching a railroad track and downshifted. I could see a train coming about a 1/4 mile away, but got across and on up to the highway intersection well before the gates came down. Of course there was a lot of highway traffic at the intersection, so had to sit there in neutral for a while before I could go. First time I popped it in gear I killed the engine and then had to wait for more traffic to clear. The second time I gave it a little bit of throttle when I jammed it into gear and got it launched OK. Drove it on home without having to make any more stops! ;D So I ordered a new cable from Mid America Motor Works which came on Saturday. But the worst part was, the air-conditioning in my shop broke on Friday. And temps have been around 100*F every afternoon for about a week now. I ordered a new high efficiency furnace with A/C which came yesterday, but haven't installed it yet because I had the Bradley up on jack stands right in the way. Just got the new cable installed late this afternoon in all the heat, and took Brad for a little test drive. Runs great! ;D But I got hotter than a firecracker working on it. (Seems appropriate for the 4TH, right?) And of course it was a tough job for this 70 yr old guy. Took the seats out for access, but getting the pedal assembly out and back in was still a hassle! Anyway, it's now back on the road and ready to go! ;D Gary Hammond,

Gary, You had a pretty good run, in terms of time, without problems. Life being what it is, problems always show up at inconvenient times. I have had clutch cable go once and the foot pedal clutch lever claw break once, both at inopportune times. However, since I have had ACVW vehicles for more than 27 years, three engine rebuilds and a couple of clutch problems are not bad. I relate to hot weather, 104 here today. Glad to hear you got it back functioning quickly despite the heat. Hope the shop A/C goes in relatively hassle free. Warmest Regards....

Sorry to hear of your problems, but also glad you are healthy enough to "git er done". It was nice visiting with you at bugfest. Leonard

Was that the original clutch cable?

Hi Zmud, I think it was probably the original. It broke once before, maybe 10 years or so ago. That time the eyelet on the pedal end wore through and the hook was badly worn as well. Pulled it out and welded up both the eyelet and hook, greased everything and put it back together. This time the cable frayed and came apart at the clutch end. No repairing it this time. Had to replace it. The end I repaired before was still in great shape though. Gary Hammond,

That's what I like to see, someone who gets down & dirty & repair or rebuild something. Not go runner down to a shop for help. And you have 8 years on me too!

Of we who have watched Gary's activities over the years, it is very easy to believe that a clutch cable repair is the least of his many mechanical efforts...He is a master machinist, mini-ford mustang builder and Bradley expert and an all around good guy...But, of course, that is just my opinion... ;D bobevans

I bought one of the Big Foot pedal extensions and it does not use the hook, but rather a stud and a nyloc nut. I wonder it it will be a little less harsh on the cable end.

Hi Guys, Thanks for all the accolades! Been a "gear head" all my life. Just enjoy making things and fixing things. Even got talked into remodeling my wife's kitchen last winter. She did all the painting (I hate painting) but I did the wall repair, floor repair, installed new tile ceiling, installed new wiring, installed all new cabinets, installed new counter top and sink, installed all new appliances, built a new wall and made a new closet accessable from the other side. Even built one of the new cabinets (custom sized) from scratch. Started the project just after thanksgiving and finished just before Easter Gary Hammond,
