Hi all.
Got this GTII from a friend. He was working on it when the big "D" came along and he had to get rid of it. I've always wanted one so here I am.
Got it reregistered(GA) and ready to roll. License plate part of rear bumper busted completely off (his X tried to tow) so rear bumper reinforcement/repair first thing just to legally mount plate. Replace temporary wiring for rear lites, rebuilt light housings. Nothing major wrong with car...I think.. but haven't really road tested much. It overheated on 20 mile trip to my place-vapor locking. Need to install an extension to the engine tin to stop heat from mufflers going directly into engine compartment.
I've rebuilt both door latchs and gotten keys for the locks... for whatever good that may be... but car came without interior door handles. I have yet to find any handles L/R simple pull --- I just don't know what to look for and where. Guess I can just go to a junk yard and search but
Any suggestions???
Also, I have to replace the gullwing door gasketing. I had a "brilliant" idea of carefully using expanding foam to make custom seals in place for both doors. I have some technical knowhow in use of expanding foam and seems to me this might work.
Any thoughts?
BTW, I've read a ton of posts in this forum and must say you owners and restorers are really a class act. Very helpful info and a lot of really clever "work-arounds". I'm taking some pictures as I go along and hope to share my experiences as well. For now, I just gotta start using the car regularly and continue shaking out little issues. Looking forward to doing a nice red/blue metalic flake paint job with SS doors, engine cover, and gas hatch vent. Right now it's a little rough but I know the end result will be well worth the efforts.
