i was wondering if you have to run the ground from the sender to the gauge and then to the grounding block.or can you ground indipendently.gauge keeps going all the way to full when key is on.

You should ground the sender by running a ground to one of the mounting screws (not the spot for the sender). You also need to wire the gauge correctly. Look here: www.egauges.com/pdf/vdo/0-515-012-123.pdf99% of the time its wired wrong...even though you are sure its not. 8 kit cars under my belt and 4 of the 7 gauges I wired in my Avenger project were wired wrong.

Individual grounds should be fine. Use an ohmmeter to be certain that you have less than 1 ohm difference between the tank sender ground and the gauge ground. Any more resistance and something isn't right. Paint or rust\corrosion may be in the way. Ideally the reading should be zero.
