Hi guys! Tonight there is a tropical storm passing just south of Puerto Rico, maybe just 50 miles south from my home or worst. I get out of the work early, and go into the water to secure a sailboat Hunter 21 daysailor that I have. I put another anchor and tied the boat to a mangroove island. Then I get to my home with 4 other people, and put upside down a wooden boat that I am repairing. Then I put my motorcyle inside my garage, and secure a hobbie cat 14 that I got with more rope and ties. Then the Bradley... I just put it under a roof. First :I was worried because it's so light, that if it blows hard it could be trouble. Fortunately, it seems that we only are going to have about 40 miles wind or so, so I am not so much worried about seeing the Bradley flying in the middle of the night. Anyways, it's the first hurricane drill of the season, I expect to get up tomorrow without any trouble at all, later I tell you. Have a nice day; riki.

We get to deal with a (predicted) minimal hurricane Emily here on the Carolina coast Sunday night/Monday morning. We could use the rain but the wind...not so much. This was promising to be a bumper crop year for pecans but hurricanes tend to strip them off the trees. I've hauled truck loads of green pecans to my mulch pile after storms in the past. The yard cleanup is the worst part of a storm

Hey, smyrnaguy, that's the same storm passing through Puerto Rico today, Emily, although is not yet an hurricane. Right now it is raining, raining, raining... There were some wind gusts between 2-5 am, but nothing serious, as Emily pass almost 100 hundred miles south, with maximum wind of 50 miles per hour. Here we got gusts about 35-40 miles, I guess. There are several floodings throughout the island, happily that didn't affect me where I live. As of now we survive. Have a nice day guys; riki.

Emily was a no show. What was left passed well offshore. What we didn't get in rain we made up for with heat. Another 100 degree Sunday and Monday.

I see Irene passed your way today. I hope you had no damages. Looks like Kitcarguy could be next in her sights. We get to deal with her this weekend as a cat 1 or 2.

What a difference a day makes. Now Irene will miss Florida and is making a beeline toward the NC coast. Current predictions make landfall between 75 and 20 miles southeast of here as a cat 3 or 4. No fun this weekend.

Yeah they say it could continue to move east. After years of living in Florida I never trust what the weather person says. Lots can change in a day

I live on the west coast of Florida and that is a big storm! I am doing some prep even though it is supposed to stay off the east coast. I work with many people who did not prep for Charley and lost everything and lived in FEMA trailers for year because it was going to miss them. This thing is still moving W/NW not N like they say it will. That is worrying. All of you that live in NC / SC please be safe. Eric A

I just tend not to worry until it is a day away.

I need to get my direction typing thing fixed. The predicted path puts landfall just to the southwest of here. This will be a test for the ditches I put in this year on my property. The local weatherguy is calling for as much as 20 inches here this weekend.

I agree too Eric. I lived in Sarasota when Charley was heading west of us, and then it took that nasty 90 degrees straight inland through Port Charlotte. They can only guess where it may be going. I hope everyone stays safe. We still have a long season ahead of us.

Ok. I'd like to request that everyone on this board walk outdoors at exactly 7:30pm EDST, face the east and blow as hard as possible. I'm hoping for the butterfly wing effect to push young Irene farther in that direction. Tonight's forecast puts her here Saturday at 2 pm with landfall at Cape lookout. What are the odds of feeling an earthquake and a hurricane within 5 days?

Thanks everyone. That seemed to work last night. If we could do it again tonight ol' Irene won't hit the mainland US at all. Yesterday's quake shook about half the nuts off my pecan trees. Unfortunately about a month too soon.

Looks like my lawn might get some rain this weekend in lovely Massachusetts.
Good weekend to put the final touches on the Avenger.

All right somebody inhaled last night. Landfall is now predicted to be within 30 miles. Its going to get a bit breezy here tomorrow. By Saturday it will downright airish. I guess I'll wait until next weekend to paint the Bradley.

The governor has called for our county to be evacuated. The local weather guy says we can look for 7-11ft flood tides tonight and tomorrow morning. We'll be looking Irene in the eye in the morning. Landfall is back to Cape Lookout, 9 miles due south from here. 9 Miles of mostly open water. Luckily the closest creek is about 150 yds away. I've got a newly dug 1/4 acre pond 12 ft deep that I'm relying on Irene to fill. Keep us in your thoughts...

We made it through fine. Top wind speed was 107mph. No power. No internet. On cell phone now. Neighbors have trees on houses.some flooding.

Glad you are okay. I just saw an article of a new Yorker who wrapped his Rover in plastic and packing tape. God help them! Eric
