Ok, so I've determined the Saturn seats I got at the boneyard are not going to work.
Has anyone gotten any other seats to work (without a dropped pan or body lift)? Miata? Fiero?

I am using seats out of a 98 Blazer I like them because they have only 16 inch wide seat tracks. I do however have a body lift so I would check to see if they will work for you.

The Saturn seats fit fine width wise... the base plus adjuster, which I'll have to measure, are just too thick. I'm thinking its around 6" total. I looked at the 914's, couldn't find anything in my price range.

The Saturn seats are approximately 6" from the pan to the top of the cushion. Guessing I need to be closer to 2 or 3 inches.

I'll take some pictures w/measurements of the miata seats I picked up and post them later tonight.
The seats in my GT2 are aftermarket fiberglass dune buggy seats. The previous owner had modified the vw seat tracks and they sat way to high. At this point I've done a rough job of removing the existing tracks and slapped the miata seat in place for a quick test.
The width seems okay but depending on how much you want to be reclined it still may be a little high. My goal is to get it mounted as low as possible and try to avoid a pan drop or body lift. Seems like if I can get an inch or so lower than my dry run I may be okay. I'm 5'10"

cool... I'm 5'10" as well, I'm hoping something will work. Of course I threw the old fiberglass seats away. Now I'm thinking that was a bad idea.

they look a tad smaller than the seats I have, did you try to sit in the car?

I did sit in the car. I had to recline further than I normally would otherwise I was too close to the roof. But, you can see in the pictures there are little spikes on the seat tracks that keep the seat from sitting down closer on the pan, there must be centering holes in the miata floor that they go into.
Also, I haven't completely removed the vw seat tracks. So once I remove those and the spikes I'm hoping I can get another inch or so lower, and it might be enough.
I was also looking at Honda del sol seats on craigslist, they are probably another option to look into. They seem to be more readily available than miata seats.

maybe I gave up on the saturn seats to quick... it has been 20 years since I drove the thing last, maybe I'm just not laying back far enough. Plus, I should set the steering column in place so I know where that's going to sit.
Pretty sure I'm gonna have to bolt the tracks right through the floor, which I really don't want to do, but any kind of mounting bracket will raise it up, which can't happen.
I'll give it another look-see tonight. I've been working on cleaning up wiring, new turn signals, and some body work the last few days.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. Bolt right to the pan, maybe with a cross-member or mounting bracket that's on the underside of the pan. It won't leave much clearance but I'd rather do that than do a dropped pan section.
I'm going to mock it up before I replace the pans so that I have an idea of what I'll be doing.
