I am a Tool and Die maker machinist and Quality Inspector.I have 3 kids who are raised. I have not served in the military but: My son is in the Air Force and has been to Iraq 4 times. We have had family members serve in every war since the Civil War and have family members who never made it home in three wars and no body returned in two wars.Still MIA to this day. Believe me I know that Freedom isn't free ,first hand ,and thank all Veterans who have given us the freedoms we have now, even to collect Bradleys.

Hey, MJ,
Congratulations (I think). I retired in 2009, but still busy with a quarterly RC airplane magazine. All the extra time I thought I'd have seems to have gotten away from me; I'm just as busy as ever.
I have the exhaust pop problem, too, but I traced it down to a damaged stud seat in one of the heads. Exhaust backfire is usually caused by a bad gasket or some other kind of leak between the head and collector or heat exchanger.
I'm sure you're more of an engine guy than I am -- I hate them and they hate me -- but give it a look if you feel like making one last dive under the car.
Hope everything works out well for you.
Warmest...

I currently hold 2 jobs. During the day I work as an automotive paint tech for a 14 store jobber, and at night I run my own autobody repair and paintless dent repair business. In my spare time........all 4 to 6 hours per week I spend time with my family working on our 64 GTO, and Bradley GT.

Thought I would ad my story to the list. I managed a grocery store until I was 30 . Got married and pastored a church for 12 years while working as a contractor. built room additions and steel buildings and did a lot of insurance work (repairs) and small residential gov. jobs . Still in construction doing insurance work and pastoring too. More fun then any human being should be allowed to have. Have 2 sons in there 20's and 2 grandkids. in my spare time I'm working on my bradley and a formula vee I picked up in exchange for tearing down a garage. just not enough time to play with the cars.

As you know I work underground as a heavy duty mechanic. For those who have never experienced it, here is a sample.
Leaving our new shop [under construction] at 5160 feet under.
Going from 5160 up to 4250 feet. At 3:29 we catch up to the other Toyotas One pulls over to make way for oncoming traffic, we continue to the next lever before pulling over. At 5:20 you will see the traffic I am talking about. You GT2e owners will like this. 60 ton Kiruna electric dump truck. 600v dc trolley overhead. Has on board batteries for movement off the trolley for loading from the overhead chutes, will carry 80 tons uphill on a 30-35 deg ramp at 16-20 mph.
My office at the 4250 level. and 2 of my co workers.

As of June 30th, 2011 I have been retired from computer R&D, Think-Tank work and becoming accustomed to living poor again. Going back to photography - a previous career. You can't find my work online because I use a pseudonym to separate personal and private life. I've about given up on the GTII with the fantastic Jake Raby engine. Selling out a lot of stuff. Sold the pristine 72 Bug last week. Still have the hot-rod '58 and GTII. Had a horrific bicycle accident before retiring. Could not walk properly for weeks. Almost healed now. The helmet company replaced mine with a new one and, Leica Camera hand-rebuilt the brand-new M9 I smashed beyond recognition to brand-new camera in record time. (Trek bicycle was not so kind. Shattered CF. Life is good, but a little slower. It's already getting almost cold in Minnesota. Best to you all.

Myself in '72. Army troop in a communication company. Is that a USA uniform? So different. Shirt, pants, boots (brogans, or Vietnam boots) I was through the service when your picture was taken. Our fatigues had the buttons covered with a flap so we could crawl on our bellies without ripping them off. And we had no such weapon. Things changed.

I love the photo MJ! Very well done. Eric That means something coming from you, Eric. Thank you. I have a storage unit full of film equipment to get rid of - all high end. But I suppose you are modern, full digital. Good luck with everything, MJ

I am all digital. I also have a bunch of really nice film stuff and everytime I put it up for sale and get offered $30 I could cry! I just think of the thousands I spent on it.
