Well, now that I got the dash out, I was able to get a good look at the electrical....and its UGLY.... Also, I figured out what the car has that weird seem from side to side and then screwed back together....who ever built the sub frame and added that additional pieces of steel tubing both front and rear for support made a fatal design flaw. It appears that they built the frame and realized that the body didnt fit over the new frame as it hooks around the front and back down over the new frame. if you look at the other pics you can see the rear and here is the front from basically the front firewall.

That wiring is a gut job for sure!

well....maybe not a gut job...I dont think its as bad as it looks. A little spring cleaning will go a long way. I'll mess with it again probably this weekend and see if I cant make some head way.
Then there is the roof situation. I think I am going to glass in a piece of flat 1/8" steel. This will give me something to bolt the doors to and something to tie the roll cage into.

You will save no time or money by not gutting it. I can tell by looking at it that the wiring was done by a hack. Its what you can't see...like that splice half way back thats all corroded, or the little section of speaker wired used because something wasn't long enough, or the bigger fuse that was popped in because the right size fuse kept popping those are the things that will haunt you.
There is nothing harder than chasing electrical gremlins and there is nothing more frustrating then having the car die cause its not charging, or having the blinkers not work, or no horn, or popping fuses, etc etc.
If you wish to work through it good luck. You will need that and LOTS of time. Clearly this resto is going to be in the several thousand dollar range.
I would also consider adding some small square tube into the roof section. You won't get alot of strength by that flat plate. Maybe a perimeter frame of 1/2" tube and a plate in the middle?

Jeff's comment is worth it's weight in gold. You can just hear "been there, done that" in his post. Heed his advice. He's not trying to discourage, just living in reality.
good luck, bob

And BTW, I cut the steel bracing out of the ass end this morning and low and behold.....lifted the body and slid it forward...so she is now free. hopefully this weekend I'll buld the stands for the body and roll out the chassis...

"I'll mess with it for a bit, but if it gets to be too much, I'll just rip it out."
Just keep in mind there is no better of a time to re-wire a car when it is up on a stand....Once you put it back on the chassis it becomes a nightmare and you will park the car instead of drive it.

Well, thats what I am thinking as well. If I cant get it cleaned up and functioning while its still apart, I'll just replace it. I can hook all the lights and stuff up with just the pan, or enough of it to see if its going to be feesible to keep messing with...

The more I think about it.....
I may just build my own wiring sustem for the car. use that 25 years of electrical experience to good use...basically just some lights with some switches plus an ignition system...I dont really feel like dropping $200 plus on a new harness...

I am into endurace racing, cant relate to your lifted Invader GT idea. Only care about Le Mans & Sebring & Nurburgring, etc, etc. Good luck with maybe getting that raked windshield Invader GT from Kentucky.

I can't imagine driving that thing all jacked up like that....between being laid back and being so high you probably have a 50 foot blind spot in front of you.
If you do reuse that chassis I would suggest relocating the shifter and ebrake. It really makes all the difference in the world.
