Almost $400 is way overpriced. I use the Scat angled shifter. Works great on all years. POSITIVE reverse lockout. Reverse lock rod will not break.I have them in 3 cars, cannot be beat for price, performance and quality. For the "race car" look, remove the boot. The Original Dual-T Handle VW Shifter 4 models offered - VW, Sedans, Bus/Transporters Contoured finger grip chrome plated cast aluminum T-Shift Handle The quickest & most accurate VW shifter made - no more wandering to locate gear Separate T-Handle reverse stick for a full mechanical reverse lock out All critical wear parts are heat treated Custom draw-string black vinyl shift boot Simple bolt-on installations using a 13mm wrench cip1 price qualifies for free shipping C15-80501 - SCAT DRAGFAST DUAL T-SHIFTER ANGLED 46-67 BEETLE / GHIA Phone/Mail order Price US $129.95 Our Web Price US $119.95 Save 15% - Bronze! US $101.96 scatvw.com $90 The plastic shifter bushing inside the chassis tunnel is notorious for wearing out as does the bushing at the transmission and causing lots of shifter problems. A new shifter will not cure this. Put your trans in gear then move the shifter side to side. There should be very little movement. Look at the rear coupler at the trans while shifting from first to second. There should be no play.

sorry for posting so late. Great stuff! wow, the inside of your gt is sharp, shifter sits perfect looks like, where did you get the brandley gt emblem on the dash? Nice work/solid advice, plan on rebuilding that troublesome linkage you spoke of. thx.j

It is a gt2. The emblem is the one for the hood. Does not look right being on the hood. The shifter in the pic does not have the boot installed. Had to change out this shifter when I went Subaru automatic.

cip sells the bushings for about $3. Don't forget the spring clip $4. I usually order a few of each as I have lots of cars and do them for others. Order with a large order to get free shipping.

i actually did get a bug tech,if you go on the site it is the "double bend" prototype,i got for a deal, designed for front hump mounted roll bar.(bent back to clear it) nice item. has extension, huge girley shifter ball, really a nice handmade item, hand bent (amazing)reduces shifter travel by 70% Everyone was trying to order these(in Germany/Netherlands) after the pics went up on their site, but too hard to make(1 of 7 were not damaged in process)j
