Something broke inside my 1500cc single port engine, today. Still running, but with an awful sound of something loose & broken within the engine. Called a tow truck company, put her on a rollback & got her back home. So, tomorrow I will begin getting the engine ready for removal. Exhaust coming off, Carburator, intake manifold, doghouse removal, etc. I am going to be looking for a 1600cc dual port engine to replace it. This is not what I need to have happened to me at this time. I just made the middle payment on my Porsche 914 project car. For this to happen to me is the worst possible time ever. Bunch of jerks with the traffic at the intersection of Russell st. & Broadway. Not very nice to me when the engine gave me this issue. They could have been a little more understanding & nicer to me. Leastways, there has been no snow. So I thought I would drive the Invader GT, to make the middle payment on the Porsche 914. What a mistake.

Sorry to hear about the breakdown. If it is noisey but still running (with less power), it could be a valve spring. I replaced my single port heads with Mexican dual ports, valve spring broke almost immediately. Later talked to a VW engine builder, told me that while the Mexican made heads were usuable, he always immediately replaced the springs because every one he didn't broke quickly.
At any rate, may be a valve spring or two. Warmest.....

Thank you, I believe it to be a stock 1500cc from Germany. I am going to take the engine down as far as I can, with it still in the car. There is room for me to be able to remove the heads & cylinders & studs. I want to take as much weight off of the engine as possible, so I can remove it by myself.

I took the motor out of my bradley with nothing more than me and a block of wood and a jack. Piece of cake

I agree. Jack stand the back up as far is your jack will reach without a block on the oil pan. Put a 2 x 4 on your hydralic jack and support the motor. When everything is disconnected, don't forget your heater wires, experence talking here, and pull it back a bit and let the engine down and roll it out from under the car. Even I did it a few times, and I'm just a shade tree machanic. the exhust makes good handles to pull with.

I feel your pain. I'm pulling the engine in my Bradley Saturday because I developed tunnel vision last Saturday and drove a screw into my fuel tank. I let myself get too focused on a detail and overlooked the obvious.

If you need a hand gettting that engine out, I'm not doing anything this weekend. I'd be happy to come over and lend a hand.

Alright, the engine is out. I am happy, now I can think about a Ford Pinto engine for the Invader GT in the future. First I must get my Porsche 914 & get it going. Thank you bradleygttx for your help.
