By Far the very best oil is Brad Penn 40 weight racing oil, order it by the case.
It's green in color but don't let that throw you off, seal that vacuum nipple with a little rubber cap
it should run a lot better, there's also one sometimes on the side of the carb - seal that too.

I go to the local airport to get gas. There's usually never a line and it's 94 octane leaded. VW's love the stuff.

I posted this back in 2014 the reason I pay a higher premium is because if I injure myself or someone else I wanted the $100-300,000 I've used Haggerty and really like them, $285 year no deductible $100-300,000 including roadside assistance. My GT2 is covered for $10,000. Just added a 2nd GT2 for an additional $60.00 per year, that's covered for $5,000 (my choice) They are very savvy on classic & collector cars and very friendly and accommodating. I had a claim that I was inquiring about due to some damage caused by U Haul, they sent an adjuster immediately to my house and sent me a check within 2 days. They definitely get my vote!

I turned this up on the search: Hi, My Bradley GT and GTII CDs hold files of the complete, original assembly and wiring manuals, and any official updates. The GT CD also holds roughly 38 years and 645 thousand actual miles worth of useful information. Ordering is easy. Just send $35 through PayPal to jefftroy@aol.com. If you don't use PayPal, you can send $35 by check or money order to: Jeff Troy 759 New Holland Ave. Lancaster PA 17602 Be sure to state whether you need the GT or the GTII CD. The cars – and the manuals -- are very different. One of the many advantages of the CD over an original printed manual is that you can take the pages you need out to the shop and not have to worry about dogging them with oil, grease or other shop debris. If you ruin a page, you can just print another. One of my CDs just may be the best money you can spend on your car. I'm sure that anyone who has one -- and most owners do -- will tell you that it's extremely helpful. When you log in there is a search option you can either type GT wiring diagram,
or go into members and search Jeff Troy. When doing a search it's a good idea
to type in for time period last 10,000 hrs & Days

Hi Paul1234, Welcome to "The Board"
There's a wealth of info here once you learn how to search.
As far as the wiring diagram there very well may be one posted,
but above and beyond that check out our member Jeff Troy
who offers a CD for around $35.00 that has the complete build manual
as well as a lot of really good tips that he's passing along from
his years of experience building & rebuilding his GT.
Good luck with the headlights, you may want to check and see
if the previous owner installed a push button somewhere that lights up the high-beams.
I can tell you I went crazy with the same thing on my GT2 until I discovered a dip-switch
on the dash next to the steering column for the high-beams!
All the best, Mike Horen

I still say anyone who's stuck without a windshield & handy with fibre glass
should give this a shot,
I just Photoshopped it as a concept with using flat or mildly curved glass

You would need to design new side glass for those doors.
Some have used plexy or similar products, i wouldn't say easily done,
but certainly not as difficult as rebuilding a 6 cylinder air-cooled engine,
which you have experience at.
The big plus is that there is a windshield which as you know are hard to come by.
A GT2 is no fun to get caught driving in a rainstorm,
they have a tendency to leak like crazy depending on how tight your doors are.
IMHO that car looks like a decent deal,
like I said before, take it for a drive and see how it feels.

Hi Jim, Welcome! That does not look too bad, if as stated the electrics are all working - headlights etc. Good idea to poke in under the dash and see if the wiring is neat and orderly or a rats nest of splices etc. If you find bad wiring and are good at it yourself it would be a bargaining point on the price. Interior is not really all that difficult. There are patterns that came with the original build kit for all the panels. Since you know Corvairs the car would be a shoe-in. Take it for a drive and check it out! Looks good to me!
Good Luck!

Sounds like the seller is frustrated & unhappy,
sometimes these projects can make you miserable rather than offer the therapy we all hope for.
The cars been posted for more than three weeks so it might be better to wait for a better deal.
Are you local to Jersey? There's usually a few listed on CR in Central South & Northern Jersey as well as Philly.
Recently CR had a kit car shell listed somewhere for free with title.
If you want to do a total rebuild, you could continue to pester the guy,
because it's unlikely to get sold at that price!
Good luck!

That could be a nightmare or a study in paper-storms depending what state you're going to register in.
It looks like there's a tag on the windshield, that could be a starting point.
I lost the title on mine and then moved out of state, but was able to register it with
the old registration certificate. that was NY to FL.
There are also services that will help to get it registered but last time I went down that path it was about $400.00
There has to be some kind of paper trail with that car, wouldn't hurt to inquire!
Good luck & just my thoughts are if you're going to take a look at it, I'd bring whatever you feel comfortable spending on it
but if it were me I'd offer $350. & bring a trailer with you.
Good luck!

Hi Sethhope, first of all WELCOME! Glad to see new faces arriving! To put in my two cents: The main ingredient that you have right now is a nice '76 Beetle & time on your hands. I'd take some really good pix of your Beetle, like underneath inside & out & show the good as well as the weak points. I'd post it on: www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/I'd state that you'd like to wind up with a good GT2 in trade or, a very good IRS Beetle Floor Pan and cash. I would not at all be surprised if you get some hard-core Beetle fans who'd step up with a deal. Again take your time and think it through, as I see it you're the one holding the cards and I'm certain that given the right deal, though it might take some time, you'll wind up with what you want! All the Best! Mike Horen

GOTTA GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE:Quote & Pix From Brian Boggs, Senior Member & inventor of "The Bradley Lift" - - - Here is how I lifted mine by myself. Four posts made up of two 2x4's with a spacer between them. Drilled holes every five inches for a carriage bolt. Positioned them by the wheel wells and slid another 2x4 through from one post to the other. Lifted at each corner one hole at a time. Then when its up you can slide the pan out to work on it then put it back when you are done.
