I have 3 of the original GTEs which I am modifying and restoring and I know of 3 others in various stages of operation. Although I had heard that there were only 50-60 original GTEs. 500 - 600 is the number of twoie's that I have heard in everything that I have encountered.

Be careful when adding weight to a GTE - The GTE already has significant weight in the front and tends to under-steer - especially on slick surfaces. Also adding weight adversely affects braking and range on a car that is already overloaded with lead - the best thing you can do on a GTE is to lighten the whole car which is difficult to do without changing to something other than Lead Acid propulsion. Also check the air shocks on the rear and that they are properly inflated to compensate for the weight of the battery rack and batteries. And check the alignment. Castor generally only affects return centering of the wheels. Toe will cause scrub and squirrely handling. Camber can cause all kinds of ailments. Call me if you want to discuss the GTE. 407-889-7377

I paid about $2000 for the last one I bought - it was running but had some slight body damage from a rear collision. Rear bumper needed replaced and repaired crack under the trunk lid. It is a great platform for electric experimentation.

That motor will run at 48 or 96 and will probably handle 120 without any problem in its as manufactured configuration - I have a couple of them that I am fitting into my GTE projects.

If it is a GT2 there is a problem with the seats interfering with the outside rail - I think the GT1 seats will fit?

I was hoping to find something premade - I do see that a Sterling Kit and chassis builder in Pittsburgh fabs them for the Sterling kits like VALLYR suggested. The battery frame does add significant strength to the overall chassis when it is bolted on. Wyn - I appreciate your insight and the pictures as I might well have discovered the seat fit issue after constructing something that would have been too deep. I was originally thinking that about 3 inches would be about right and would not interfere with the battery frame.

I am in Apopka. I am rebuilding GTEs. None of the ones that I have are currently on the road. Don't know who is responsible for any around Venice.

I am doing pan replacements in several GT2s and am looking for a source for dropped floor pans like in the Sterling kits? I have a couple of GT2 gas tanks that I would like to find a new home for too. Larry 407-889-7377 larry@telcomp.com
