As subject states, I am considering buying a Bradley GT "project". Rather rough one that has been sitting outdoors for awhile. Last licensed in 1987!
My family had two VW Beetles when I was a teenager - took my driver's test in one of them. First we had a beige 68, then a white 72 Super Beetle. My dad still says they were one of the most overrated cars on the road... Still, I have some fond memories of our Bugs.
Can I post pics directly from my computer? I'd like someone to see this car. I haven't been able to contact the owner/seller yet. I don't know the year, or even if it has a title. (I won't buy it without a title.) I guess I need a reality check from the folks who really know these cars, before I pull the trigger. Thanks.
If it has been sitting 32 years it will need new suspension, brakes (shoes, cylinders, lines, master), a new fuels system (GTs use custom tanks), new tires, and in all likelihood a complete re-wire.
Then of course there is the engine. The tranny should be fine if it was fine when parked, just a fluid change.
I am sure the interior is probably pretty disgusting and the floors may be rotted.
So..how much of that can you do on your own? Can you weld? Wire a car from scratch? Replace suspension parts? Bend brake lines? Your level of mechanical ability will make all the difference in the world. And what is your budget? Before you pull the trigger do your research on the costs of the things I mentioned and a skills assessment.
